Not how I thought today was going to pan out...

Update phone call from Arnold Clark earlier today, following on from their call last week, asking for permission to run tests.

They've ordered a new control unit (didn't say which one) and a new compressor 🤷‍♂️.

While he was on the phone, he also let me know my front left tyre had 3.4mm of tread left on it, and that my brake disks were a wee bit corroded, and that they could do a full set of disks and pads as they had them is stock just now 🤔🤔🤔. They were absolutely perfect when they last had the car in February, and were still just as good when I handed the keys over...

Declined the offer, just fix what it went in with as a fault. If I want to work on the brakes, I'll order the bits and do it myself 🤣

Ask for photo evidence of the brake thickness, then compare when you get it back.

(Hopefully) final update.

Car was ready to be returned on Wednesday of last week, but with shifts and life getting in the way, picked up on Monday.

EVCC module was replaced, A/C compressor was replaced (apparently it was noisy... all that rock music must have deafened me, because I never noticed it, but I won't say no to free stuff) , and it had a full battery. It's been working fine since then, and took a full charge last night without issues.

And there's nowt wrong with the brakes other than a slight film of rust that lasted as far as the 2nd set of traffic lights from the workshop 🤔

AA out, reset via OBD. Did a lap of the carpark without issue, so he asked if I was taking it straight to the dealers. Hell yes. So off I set, to have it do the same again, about 5 miles down the road, right outside a school, with the bollards to stop you pulling off the road 🤦‍♂️

Managed to reset it, following what the AA fella did. OBD, read faults (there aren't any), reset faults, press the door lock twice (short horn x 2) then power off and on. Got another mile or so, did it again. Repeat, got 500 yards. Now waiting on the AA again 🤦‍♂️.

Almost on first name terms with the woman answering the phone at MG Assistance 🤦‍♂️

The saga is still ongoing.

Had a phone call 3 weeks ago from Arnold Clark, which I missed. Called back within the hour, we'll get someone to call you back. 2 weeks later, after multiple calls to them, finally get a return call. Original person dealing with the customer service side was just back from holiday, and seemed quite surprised when I said I'd had no contact for weeks. MG want my car back to their tech department down south somewhere, and it's being transported down. They're now thinking a problem with the main battery.

Oh yeah, and they'll finally green light a hire car... 7 weeks late. She was surprised by that too.

On the upside, when I can't make the deadline for the next service, at least I'll have a decent excuse for being late

Car been back just over a week. I'm not going to jinx it by saying anything apart from that I'm still waiting for a report from MG to tell me exactly what they did for the week that they had it 🤷‍♂️

Was in for the 2nd year service. and Arnold Clark are advising changing the OSF ball joint because of "slight movement". Just wondering what sort of cheese they think MG used in the manufacture if it really is shot after 23,000 miles.

A little surprised it requires a new ball joint, give the age and mileage covered by the car !.
You don't expect to be replacing these even items at its first MOT - let alone after only two years.
Covered under warranty - of course it SHOULD be !.

All the cars I've ever had have always been kept to well over 100,000 miles, with me putting at least half of that total on them, and in all that time, I've had 1 ball joint needing changed.

It's getting new tyres fitted next week, I'll have a look whilst it's up on the ramp.

Ironically enough, I had one of those about 30 years ago :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Needed to do the clutch, never needed to work on the suspension though...
It came to mind because a friend had one and it needed almost every suspension bush replaced in order to pass its first MOT. It had about 23K miles on the clock IIRC.

Slightly more recently, but my daughter once owned two Ford KA's from new.
BOTH of them failed there first MOT on top strut suspension bushes, excess play !.
These where a common failure point.
Only lasting about 18 months, needing replacement on every second MOT test.
A regular job for me, to replace them before every 22 months, just before the MOT was due.
My friend I served my time with, had his own MOT station, before he recently retired.
He said these strut top bushes are a usual instant failure point every two years, even if they have been replaced before !.
Major components should not be failing on the first MOT on a regular basis.
Original poor design, or poor quality parts has to be the issue.

Happy New Year...

Same old problems 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Was on a CPS charger last night, and when I came back to the car, all the chargers at that location had shut down. At first, the traction battery wouldn't come on, but after a few tries, it kicked in and ran OK.

Now it's refusing to start, and the 12v battery is also now showing very low. Moving from slightly annoyed to getting pissed off.

The VERY low SOC displayed for the 12 volt battery, is the reason the car is refusing to boot up of course.
Why has the 12 volt discharged to this level I wonder ?.
Has it somehow discharged when the D/C Rapid's closed down 🤷‍♂️ .
