MG ZS EV Buyers Remorse kicking in

I would be concerned with glitches like this from day 1. Make sure you document the timeliness of the fault occurring and the dealerships attempts to rectify and how long you were without the car etc. This will be invaluable if you decide to exercise your rights under the sale of goods act to reject the car.

I am sure you may have done this but if you have had a service do you check that it has been reset, I have had few time so alway check before I leave the place.
Hi, the car is new, picked it up in March so it has not had a service yet. First service is due next year in Feb. It has only done about 4K miles so far.

I have a feeling that the complexity of the cars are such you need to spend time learning the car before undertaking a critical journey. Just like rapid chargers fail because of user error.

Well well!
I purchased my Trophy Connect LR from Richmond in Portsmouth on Monday 4th July.
When I set the sat nav to take me from the dealership to IKEA in Southampton it duly plotted me a route. Set off and the sat nav said the car is still in the dealership car park!
No matter I thought, go to the M27 services, and do a car version of 'Control/Alt/Delete'!
Lock car and let it go to sleep for 10 mins or so.

When I opened it again the sat nav now said I was in the services, and the preplanned route to IKEA was still there, so off I set, but no the sat nav said I was still in the services!
Luckily as I don't trust 'Control/Alt/Delete' to cure every ill, I used Waze on the phone as a backup!
Arrived at IKEA very angry as something as basic as this should have been checked when the car had its PDI.
I was not a happy bunny when I pulled into the Richmond Portsmouth dealership on my return!
I was even more unhappy when the salesman said quite calmly that maybe it needed a software update! Why wasn't it checked for ALL available software updates before handing it over to me?
Anyway I took it back the next day and it had the 5 hour software update it should have had! I had a MG ZS 5 speed manual petrol as a loaner, what a HORRIBLE car!!
All this was in anticipation for a 320 mile trip to a wedding in real North Wales!
Sunny and stunningly beautiful!
The drive up on Friday was the usual Friday chaos on the M3, but once on the A34 not too bad.
My son and I were chatting about the car and didn't notice that DAB Radio 2 had gone awol!
Still no matter as we were enjoying the ZS EV comfort and ride!
We had chosen a rural pub in the middle of Shropshire with a BP Pulse charger to have our break and meal.
No problems charging and very impressed with the range of the car. All good.
Then we set off for the second half of the journey to North Wales proper.
After 10 mins the Sat Nav decided it didn't want to tell where to go and had dropped the route!
We entered it again and continued, and sure enough after another 10 mins it gave up directing us!
Luckily we had a couple of mobile phones and 'Google maps' guided us to our destination.
I put the granny charger on and it gave up near enough full charge by the time we had to leave on Sunday.
We set off on our drive back to Portsmouth and the sat nav performed perfectly!
As 320 miles is a stretch too far even in ECO mode we had to stop for a 'splash and dash' on the A34 TotHill services. Instavolt chargers and no problems getting enough in to give enough range to get home, Chichester.
Drove back onto the A34 and the sat nav said we were driving in a field! Also it thought we were going north not south!

So how can MG honestly sell a car with a sat nav that malfunctions seemingly after a DC charge.
Oh, the radio burst into life a few miles further down the A34 at more or less the point is stopped working!!

The ZS EV Trophy Connect LR is a lovely car to drive, but BOY is the software flaky!
And all my issues, Sat Nav, Radio, Apple Carplay are all software related and totally fixable when someone at MG can be bothered to get down to re writing a lot of it and get rid of all those bugs.

One final thing, the car when started often doesn't remember the last radio station listened to, and I selected one at random. Imagine my surprise when I took my foot off the accelerator and the radio volume decreased only to return to the volume I set when I pressed the accelerator again! I played around with the accelerator and brake to satisfy myself it was controlled by my right foot!
i don't recall that as a 'feature' when I purchased the car!

All together now "dead reckoning turned off"?

Hi
if the radio came back to life check that the station follow is switched on so if you are on BBC 2 that it will automatically follow that station or any national radio stations.
that also could sort out the sat nav.

this may help there is a manual in your system.

User Manual
In the settings interface, touch [User Manual] to enter the user manual interface. You can view the user manual and entertainment manual.

I would say the dealers need training on all MG cars every time I go into my one they ask me questions about the PHEV.

Finally, the MG ZS EV arrived on Tuesday.

I have purchased many new cars in my life and this is the one that got me excited.

On Tuesday and Wednesday studied the manual and took it out for drives to acclimatise us.

More critical because of my Mother’s 97th birthday party on Saturday 120 miles cross country or 170 along motorways.

Did all the planning, the Motorway was the safer choice in case we needed a charge. But according to the book if we go cross country we can get there and back on one charge.

The hotel (£300 a night for this special occasion would let us plug in. So that will take off the pressure.

Allowed 4 hours for a 3 hour drive to arrive for lunch.

Set off and the first 40 miles on a Motorway.

The Cruise control would not engage, the light on the dashboard was yellow and ready to go. The dashboard cheerfully declared no issue or errors.

But the cruise control would not engage.

Turn off, turn back on.

Still won’t engage.

Pulled over ‘rebooted’ the car.

No change

Pulled out manual on my car.

Everything checks out, everything is good just press the button on the end of the stalk and

Nope

So carried reading manual, this is a three hour drive and really want the cruise to work.

But alas, no joy.

Even tried the entertainment system reboot

No joy

Called the MG dealership - no use

Drive to dealership, they were confident it was driver error right up until, ‘The cruise control won’t turn on’

So now left 1 hour further away from my destination now having to do a 4 hour journey in 2:20 mins on the motorway way because now we will have to recharge.

It is funny that the greater the expectation the greater disappointment when it fudges up.

The MG dealer I got the car from declared this is an MG issue not a dealership issue and I need to take it up with the MG UK.

So now forced to do a long drive, arriving very late, without the use of cruise control.

Extra bonus is that CarPlay is playing up, Google Maps keeps going blank and the MG display keeps going off to the recharge screen on its own

This feels like a lemon.

First impressions of the MG ZS EV - sketchy and unreliable.

A massive disappointment.

On Monday when I get back decide what I need to do about it.

At the moment suffering massive regret at the purchase.
Hi, I had a similar issue with the cruise control. Could not switch it on while there were no errors. Another user advised me to check if all doors are properly closed. Even though there were no indications that any door or boot was open, I opened/closed everything expecting that it would not make a difference... but he/she was correct. The CC worked again and never had an issue since..

So looks like progress, thanks to everyone here.

To get SatNav to work disable ‘dead reckoning’ in options Then reboot entertainment system.

If Cruise Control does not work, pull over, open and shut each of the 5 doors to ensure they are all properly closed.

I am absolutely certain these are not the only quirks of the MG ZS EV LR.

Perhaps……. If the brakes stop working turn left passenger light on and off 3 times quickly to reset braking system? :)

Hilarious, the last time I encountered this sort of quirkiness I was driving a Hillman Avenger that had far too many miles……

Anyway, many thanks for everybody’s help.

I‘ll chalk up the idiosyncratic behaviour to character.

Dealer was you're first and only port of call when buying, they remain you're first port of call when a problem like this arises , I'd honestly roast any dealer who tried to feed me a line like " take it up with MG "

The dealer is MG !

It is a maturity issue, it will get better as SAIC move MG up the value chain but will result in an increase prices.

If cruise control does not work it's much quicker to test the rear wiper - it, also will not work if the boot isn't closed properly! My boot issue was solved on the day it started - I worked out it was the false floor handle preventing proper closure when in the raised position. 👍

test the rear wipe; great tip, saves pulling over and to open/close all doors...

I'm sorry to hear this tale of disappointment.

We experienced number three also. The correct date is announced on the first start up of the day, but subsequent start ups are announced at 1 January 19. We have just turned this feature off as it was so annoying.
Just out interest how do you turn the initial greeting off? It as you say annoying to say the least especially as it often interrupts the radio which is up and running by the time the greeting starts!
The software is very 'immature' compared to most other manufacturers including Kia and Hyundai. The VW ID3, a car of comparable price, is so much better in this respect!
