DASH CAM

I drive a ZS EV LR and as you know there is USB access next to the rear view mirror.
Excuse my ignorance but if I plug in the dash cam to the USB is that not all there is to it?

Why are people having to rewrite and all to engine?
Not understanding what the difference is.
This thread is part of the MG5 forum - a model which does not have the USB port you mention. It’s possible the facelift MG5 will gain this (similar to your facelift ZS), but just now it needs wired into the fusebox.

Hi all

I bought a dashcam from Halfords and they were going to fit it for me also, but when they realised my car was all electric they said they couldn't fit job as welldashcam's to all electric cars as they are not insured to do it....it was something to do with the wiring and the fuse box.....just wondered if anyone has any suggestions on where to get dash cam fitted.
thanks

Halfords fitted mine a few months ago, done a top job as well. 😀

I purchased a NextBase 522 GW and fitting kit from Halfords. It included cameras for front and rear. I had them fitted by SJ Tech Essex based in Hadleigh, Benfleet, SS7. The proprietor, Steve, came to my house to fit the cameras. He was very knowledgeable about the MG5 as he’d fitted cameras in these cars before. He did an excellent job and I would have no hesitation in recommending him.

Would have thought that they could have made the front and rear cameras double as dashcams. Take to point that they would not work when parked.

Halfords refusal to fit accessories is just ignorance of the design of EVs

ANY section which has the high voltage system incorporated has to be clearly marked with HV symbols and would be limited to the engine compartment and under the floor. The ability to control the high voltages remotely with low voltage signal mean there is no reason to do anything different.

Can't really blame them for playing safe. The margins on fitting kit just aren't worth any risk.
