MG5 41,000 mile update

Pity about the clickbait title given James's statement later that he's still expecting to achieve 150-200,000 miles out of it.

I switched it off after 20 seconds when he confidently announced that it was clickbait. Underhand tactics like that don't reflect well on his business.

Then you missed out.
Firstly yes it was clickbait but swiftly acknowledged in the video as you said.. Was it reasonable clickbait as the title is clearly a question not a statement and in my eyes was aimed to attract and then disappoint the anti-EVers who would have jumped on this.

My only disappointment was that there was no mention of battery state after 40,000 miles and the numerous charges it must have had... do I assume that there are no noticable effects?

Otherwise very good. Interesting that the brake pads were hardly used, brake dust on the fronts of my previous Polo were always the trigger to give it a clean, whereas the MG front wheels are factory fresh after a couple of thousand miles.

I think you've missed my point. It is his business that has lost out. For me it is just another video. For him it is a lost future customer.

In one of the answers in the comments below the video if you watch it in Youtube he says.....
'The traction battery is currently at 98.7% SOH'

If you have seen any of the other videos he does with the car (well worth watching IMO) you will see that it is charged to 100% a least 4 times/days a week as the car is used for work 5 days a week, and very often has rapid charging whilst the car is out and about all over the country.

So be it, each to their own their method of choosing who they deal with.

I still think that if you boycotted the video simply due to that then you missed out on some interesting information, which was my point.

So, at 1.3% per 40,000 miles. On that basis, to get to 10% degradation would happen around 307,000 miles. So assuming full capacity is 210miles, that would mean full range at 10% would look like 190 miles.

It's a LR so the WLTP full range is 250 but in real world terms.....? :)

In his other videos he says he achieves 220-230 miles fully loaded.

Apologies, I must have missed that....

I've not watched it but it sounds likely to be more your loss than his. One man protesting with his feet isn't usually that visible to a business, unless it's one of their high rollers.

I had my MG5 serviced yesterday, by MG, at a little over 32,000 miles. SOH of the battery is still 100%.

Fair point !.
With the wheel and brake pads removed, I guess it’s the car that is disabled some how ???.
The car park looked pretty empty to me ?.
When its empty it's not a major issue but if everyone had the discipline to park/drive/ behave reasonably there would be little conflict needed. My local Asda has one set of disabled bays opposite the ATMs which are frequently used by drivers "just getting some money out" even if it is the last bay available. Even better are those that park in the middle blocking some 6 bays for the same reason. Technically they are not in a reserved bay but just to save a few steps they want to be obstructive, again not a real issue if the driver is in the car to move it but often its the driver that has gone to the machine.

The EV bays had to have plastic cones in front asking people to leave them free unless charging. I was just coming out when I heard the Tannoy paging for a driver, a few minutes later a man came stomping out cursing because he had to move his (non-electric) VW T4 campervan off the charging bay and park elsewhere

Yesterday I parked up (in a bay) next to a white Verso which was bang over the junction of 4 bays making them all unusable! Why??
