Re ZS Trophy LR weekend loan

Hi Harry17, I’m not a ZS driver I have the MG5 SR so I’m not, going to try and advise you about all the toys the New ZS has onboard.
if it where me in you shoes I would just drive it and forget about all the tech stuff for now do your journeys and get used to the car before you start turning things on and off, with regard to the Zappi best charger on the market in my book, I’ve had mine about 2 years now and I do have solar but no batteries as yet.
The Zappi does what it stays on the tin, so after your journey just plug it in set it to fast on the unit or its app, lock the car and forget about it next morning unlock the car and pull the plug out immediately, as after a very short time the car will lock itself again and you perhaps won’t be able to pull out the plug until you unlock the car again, then once unpluged set the Zappi to stop which is the off setting as well if your Zappi is not tethered type and you have to use a type 2 cable out of the car with it don’t forget to take the cable with you in case you need it but for 90 miles you won’t.
So Harry Good luck, enjoy I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with the MG ho and by the way welcome to the forum.
Les
Thanks Les 👍🍺.

it is through the likes of yourself, and others oN this forum, why I decided to go for the tethered Zappi. Had a drama yesterday. When I realised I would be using it, i had a little play, and quickly found we had not connected it to my wi-if . Tried and tried reading something called “the instructions” but could not even work that out 😂. Anyway, got installers here around 08:00hrs today to hopefully get the wifi up and running, ready for the weekend.

Failing that, there’s is always the granny. 😁

Thanks.

Re: weekend loan, I knew the dealer was closed on a Sunday, so I thought I would be a bit cheeky. I called him and asked if there was anything they could offer whereas I could pick the car up on a Saturday morning around 11:00hrs and keep the car til I finished work on Monday afternoon. After some thought he said “I don’t see why not”, so I was quite surprised myself that they afforded me this. he did say they had two demonstrators, so as long as I got the car back early Monday PM, then all would be good. I believe their other demonstrator is a TSR.

Needless it say, I am very impressed with the dealer. So far (delivery of TLR notwithstanding) they have been exemplary.
I suspect he knows you are going to be reporting your experience to others in your line of work, these MGs have surprised everyone, the motoring press in particular, as to how good they are and vfm. He may well have colleagues of yours beating a path to his door. If you read the initial reviews of 3 years ago all the sniffy remarks have disappeared from later reviews. I have been surprised at the number of people peering at mine and asking to look in it when i have been in car parks. Mine is the Exclusive in white, cheap as chips, but not as sophisticated as the new version which I might buy next year.
As for range, as long as it is more than your bladder all is good. And the rapid charger network is coming on in leaps and bounds now. And you only need to charge enough to get you home, the publicity material of 40 minutes puts people off. Fifteen minutes will be enough most times!

Well this is a fact but slow, when you had the Zappi fitted did they fit a HUB ? as you need this to use the App as it’s is this that connects to you WiFi, Not the Zappi by itself.

Thankfully yes! ….phew!

They came round today, after a bit of a palarva, eventually got the hub talking to my router, and eventually in turn to my mobile app. So that is all good now.

Fortunately, if i have any big issues this weekend, I can just use the base unit and then do some more fault Finding on the App-Human-Interface inputting :)

The newest Zappi has built in WiFi so doesn't need the hub.

Dave

I thought les was meaning the dongle thing that clamps around the input cable.
No, that is a CT clamp. The hub is a separate box of tricks that "talks" to the Zappi and is connected to WiFi. I don't have the latest model of Zappi so I have a hub next to it, although it could be further away.

Roger that. Yep, my unit has the internal hub. I am getting there :)

Hi thanks for that Dave we learn something everyday mines about 22 months old now.
Edit
Harry17, sorry I give you some wrong information about the Hub for the Zappi, but I can see you have got it sorted and as ZSDave has explained the latest units like yours have the Hub built in now so getting better all the time the Zappi but I was unaware of that upgrade so apologies for that.

Still invaluable info Les 👍. Does not worry me, when you are starting from such a low level of competence, any gen is good gen ! 😁

As promised, here is my very amateur attempt to report on my three days of running an MG ZS EV SR (Trophy). As you will very quickly realise, I am no Clarkson, nor Tiff Needle. :)

First and foremost, some members on here did say that I would not want to hand the car back. I can 100% confirm, this is indeed the case! ‘Twas like experiencing a massive regret from when times we’re much less complicated, Like not asking the most popular lass out in Juniors school before joining the comprehensive.

No? Only me then :)

Picked up the car with 100% charge, which read 199 miles range at the time. The car had only done 70 miles since built, and was obviously dubious regarding this displayed range.

Drove the car like a normal ICE Car, and had radio playing and air con on (sporadically).

After 47 miles travelled, the car was displaying 63% battery, 129 miles range and a mile per KWh of 3.6

This was driven in normal mode, and on a combination of dual carriageway / Town / traffic jams / playing with the surprisingly rapid heavy right foot and getting the car up to 70 mph well within 9 seconds. The linear acceleration was very, very impressive.

The car itself is perfect for a family, really roomy inside with a massive boot (more-so with the shelf down to its lowest level ). Lovely driving height position, however when driving it, you never feel that the car is too big. Very difficult to explain really.

Having researched a decent home rapid charger (well 7.odd Kw) on here, Les Burrows advice was invaluable for ease of use. I was worried (being a newbie) how charging this car could be an issue. I needn’t have worried. The Zappi is great, and I had absolutely no issues charging this car when I got home. Quite simply, a breeze!!

Loving this experience, deffo a convert to BEV now. Got a few miles to do tomorrow (going cross country to take Mrs Harry 17 out for a nice meal out in the countryside), so will add to this thread tomorrow night.

C-Mon Lionesses!!!!

Still awaiting a negative to report……

{EDIT} : the infotainment lag on the touch screen is pants!! Crikey only knows how bad it must have been on the Gen 1!! This system is pretty poor, but not completely crap, does work when you prod the screen like you want to break a finger!

100 Voice Activated Commands.
WiFi Hotspot
Multi-Network SIM for good connectivity
Live Traffic on SatNav
Live Weather
Amazon Music
POI Search
MG Touchpoint Search (Dealer network)
Route Push from iSMART
Calendar Routing

There a couple of other things that I can’t remember at the moment.

It is not just a software difference, there is different hardware in the Connect to facilitate the additional features.

Now you spilled the beans everyone will want one! The Mk 1 isn’t rubbish either but I can see the improvements would make a difference on long journeys, Specifically the faster charging. Can I check, do you have the ability to pre-warm the battery before you rapid charge. I often find that I have broken my journey a few times before the need to rapid charge on a Spring day and the battery is cold. Then I end up charging at 30 kW which is balls aching.

Yes, the new ZS EV has the ability to heat the battery before charging while driving on long trips.

I think you can use voice commands for your linked phone via the ‘voice’ button on the Trophy, but nothing else. I would have liked the sunroof opening, and the route push from iSMART, but not worth it for me for the cost of the Connect. My iPhone connected via Carlinkit gives me voice activated Spotify and sat nav on the infotainment screen of my current car, so I plan to use that on the MG. Eventually!!

Edited to add to the first sentence “for phone calls”

Long press on the button or just say

“Hey Siri”

Or

“Hey Google”

to activate voice commands on your phone.
