Steering gone on my 2021 ZS EV

Can you supply a photo of the failed UJ joint ( Top or Bottom) and a photo of the part number label on the lower steering column assembly please.
Thanks !.
This thread is trying to build up some historical data for cross reference purposes.
Did you experience any knock / excess play at the steering column / wheel prior to the failure.
As a X Ford fitter, your experience in this matter would be very well received by other owners.
Thanks !.
I will update with pictures over weekend and yes knocking came first from drive to reverse, currently have a tired 1 Yr old but will update soon thanks

UPDATE car went in and diagnostics were done the noise I was hearing was the RNS brake sticking apprently the the mechanic came outside and got in the car with me and told me a few truths the rack and pinion is on its way out but has fail for warranty replacement well mg hope it doesn't fail when the baby is in the car !

RNS ? rear near side? 🤷‍♂️

Sorry, I am a little confused here ?.
In your previous post you suspected that one of the lower steering column U.Joints had failed and you where going to upload some photo's over the weekend.
Prior to the car going into the dealers on the Monday.
Has the UJ joint failed, or is there excess play in the steering rack then ?????.
Also the car has a noise from the N/S/R wheel - Correct ?.
Hand brake sticking maybe, has this been cured ?.

Noise is back again there is play in the top UJ but within tolerance of MG not to replace yet also play in the steering rack again this needs to be more excessive for MG to replace I recon the Noise will have to get louder before they do anything, look the rack and pinon system is cheap, I often wonder why other EV cars are electric steering - not power progressive pumped. I love the car so im not going to put it down but just a maybe is this the same rack system from a classic MG. When driving you get the old small knock like thud through the steering system, and it's not pot holes.

We’re now entering our 8th week without our 1st Gen ZS as the garage still cannot source a steering column replacement. We have been told though that our 2nd Gen LR, ordered back in December, should be here by September. Good chance the car will get here before the part. Could this all be a ruse to keep the mileage down on the trade in?

Mine went into dealership in Devon on the 21st June. I was told they were on back order couldn’t give me a date.
After a week i called into my local dealer JCT600 Bradford it was them that told they were next day deliver. Got back to Devon surprise surprise they managed to get next day delivery. Saying that it still took them 4 weeks in total to get it back on the road. Ring another dealership parts department and ask them.

From where? According to our garage MG UK don’t have them in stock.
If your dealer is proactive, they CAN call e.mail message MG UK and ask them for a ETA date for your part.
Your lower steering column coupling, will be coming direct from China I strongly suspect.
Last year our Gen 1 ZS EV had a issue with the electronic hand brake on the drivers side.
It was stuck on and would not release, the car was recovered to our local dealer and a new electric actuator motor and complete brake calliper was ordered.
The dealer could tell me straight away that there was NO stock in the UK.
Both parts went onto a "Back Order" list.
One of the parts department staff said :- "I will try and call the main MG parts department in the UK - But will we be lucky if they answer".
To our surprise, the picked up the phone after about 30 seconds.
After a brief conversation, the local dealer had ETA dates for both parts.
A date in the future of about 10 days ( ish ).
The guy in the parts department at the local dealer said he thought it would take a little longer.
I called into the dealership the day after the parts SHOULD have arrived, to be told one part had arrived yesterday (y) but the second items date had slipped by another 4 days.
We where given a hire car while we where awaiting the arrival of our spare parts.
The day before the second part was due to arrive at the dealership I received an e.mail from MG to say my outstanding part was due at the dealership the following day and that the local dealer had been instructed to install the parts the same day !.
MG wanted the hire car returned to the hire company the same day.
We had the hire car for almost four weeks by now.
The local dealer rang the following morning to say that second part had now arrived and I should have me car back, latter in the same day.
I collected our car mid afternoon and by early evening, the hire car was gone - collected !.
Cost of the replacement parts about £160.00 ( retail ) and about one hour of labour to install them.
Set against, four weeks car hire from a local company ............. £2,000 ?????.
MG need a more comprehensive parts department in either the UK or Europe.
Hire car costs must be crippling them !.

UPDATE MY STEERING COLUMN IS GETTING REPLACED!!!!!
Glad to hear !.
Other owners have taken a photo of the steering column component and uploaded to the site.
Looking to see if there is any common denominator of part number etc that can be attributed to this premature failure of this item.
My guess would be that the replacement item is on “Back Order” from China.
Ask the dealer to give you a ETA on its arrival.
The failure of this UJ appears to vary from car to car, at different ages and mileage covered.
The Gen1 ZS EV suffered the same problem on certain cars.
You would think by now, that MG would have carried out an investigation and identified why this component is subject to early failure.
Manufactures tend to have a couple of
different suppliers for each component, just in case of a shortage situation ( Eggs in one basket type thing ).
I know that dealers don’t bother returning small warranty items to MG.
They tend to keep them for a while, then dispose of them.
They appear to authorise the dealer to order and replace the parts that only they consider require replacing.
If so, nobody will be studying the failure point of these parts ?.

Mine is 15/10/21 and a 331 pt number, Trophy LR (not connect) and all looks fine top and bottom joints.

I got mine back on Friday after it being in for the day for diagnostics.

They are ordering a new UJ for the steering column and will fit it when it arrives. Been told the car is still safe to drive (and I hope it is as I have to drive to Manchester and back this week from Gloucester).

22 plate LR Trophy that I took delivery of in June

It is crazy that the facelifts still have issues.

Where's the continuous improvement processes at the factory?

Not a good look for MG.
