I had my first service in June with Richmond Motors Southampton, and was shown a wallet with an AA card which I would receive when I picked up my car .However they had ran out of cards when I returned to pick up my car.
They said a card would be sent in a few days.
Yesterday,I enquired about my card and they told me to ring MG assistance.
It transpired that I was not on the system and was not an AA member.
On contacting Richmond Motors , they said it was an error and they had now made me a member.
Not happy with Richmond Motors.

I had my card ok when I picked up my new car and got another card when I had my 15k 1st service 🙃
Meant to say that was at Richmond Southampton

People sometimes make mistakes, or overlook things, even in jobs they are familiar with (maybe more so). I know I did.

They seem to have corrected it quick enough anyway.

I hope you have called the MG assistance back, just to confirm that you are now on their system ?
There is a thread on here, where a member discovered he wasn't covered when he needed them. The dealer said it was a mistake and would add him.
Then subsequently back tracked and said he wouldn't be covered at all.

Sounds about right for Richmond. I got my car from them and had numerous issues with their poor after sales service. Not had to use AA yet but that could be another surprise to come

What happens if you’re already an AA member when you buy/have a service with AA renewal included? Do you just give up your current membership and go with the freebie or can you add one to the existing membership. I’ve be with the AA for a long while and have gold membership. It’d be a shame to chuck that just for a freebie…

That’s a good question, and I don’t know the answer, but I suppose you would need to ask the AA, and as you have a gold membership with them I would think only they can tell you where you stand.
Les.

I suppose it depends on what benefits of gold membership you actually use and how much they are worth compared to the cost.
If you keep have the MG membership (why not it's 'free') which is for the car, then the true cost of the gold membership is what you pay less whatever benefit you actually get out of it. I've had a look and I probably wouldn't get much in savings compared to the cost. Looks to be the usual savings on lots of things/places I would never go to or use.
Personally I would be weeping over the 5 years plus of AA premiums compared to other equally good breakdown services.
:)

I've kept my StartRescue package, as its personal cover and I have other vehicles.

The gamble being that if there's a limitation on the AA cover, I can invoke the other to get me or the vehicle where we need to be.
