The one really irritating thing about the MG5...

Thanks Ian for the insight, my car is on contract hire so I'll be looking at one of those USB rechargeable magnet lamps, as I don't want any excuse for excess payments in 4 years time.

Yes
You would be better with one of those kind of lights as they don’t need any excuse to ask for money
😃👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

OK, obviously, this is a personal gripe and others may disagree. But this one really gets to me.

You leave the MG5 with your lights still on - and it "beeps" at you when you try to lock it. That's fine.

You leave your keys in the car - and it "beeps" at you again. Good, you obviously don't want to leave the keys in the car.

You've been using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, and you leave the phone attached to the USB cable. You leave the car, try to lock it, and it says "You want to leave your phone in the car? Fine by me!" - and LETS YOU DO IT!!! And you walk away from the car, and ten minutes later you realize that you've left the f***ing thing in the f***ing car and you've got to go back for it...

I mean - really? How hard could it be to "beep" at you and not lock the car if your phone is still attached?

...mutter mutter mutter mutter...

Anyone agree with me? Anyone have other trivial gripes that annoy them immensely?
My wife's e-Up! shows a message on its screen - to not forget your phone, when you switch off.

I'd rethink the magnetic fixing, do you really want a light flying about the cabin everytime you have to brake sharply?

I believe the magnetic medium plate is attached with adhesive to the fabric of the roof lining, my plan was to add a few drops of superglue, or similar between that plate, and the magnet of the lamp base.

Lol, the poor rear seat lighting in the ZS EV. It finally got to me an I installed overhead near-side lights and foot well lights in the front 😀

Despite reading the manual from cover to cover I have not been able to get the Satnav to zoom in and out as I can in every other satnav I have ever used. You can see a route summary, ie the whole route, and when on motorways the satnav shows a slightly wider view but this is not what I want.
Has anyone found a way of zooming in and out?
My default is to use the iPhone and google maps but that seems to be defeating the purpose of having an inbuilt satnav.

Surely you just use 2 fingers or a finger and thumb as you would on your iPhone two pinch and zoom in or out mine does.plus I’m sure that once you have used the two fingers a small bow appears in the bottom left of the screen with a plus and minus symbol on it.

I tried that again just to check that I hadn't't got it wrong when I tried it before I posted the thread. . It works fine if you are not actually doing a route. But as soon as you are on a route the moment you do the finger and thumb it decides that you are selecting a new destination and the navigation ceases to be useful as the car location pointer doesn't track the actual position and you have to scroll the screen manually. You can zoom in and out ok though. It also asks you to select the dropped pointer as your new destination.
So basically the Nav system is not terribly good unless someone else has a solution which i haven't tried yet. Back to Google maps on the iPhone, I also have a Garmin which I could use but seems rather to defeat the object of having an inbuilt satnav.

Every new car built in sat nave I've ever used has been terrible compared to google maps on Android Auto or Waze if the phone is in a holder (way more functionality and AI than the AA version)
It became de rigguer to fit them into high end cars or techy trim levels but that is slowly dying out when they have realized most people don't use them or more importantly buy the updated maps, y'know the thing google and waze do for free!

The two most irritating things about the (mostly fine) MG5 are:-

- No warning if you mistakenly leave the flap over the charging port open (unlike leaving a door or the boot open).

- The driving mode and KERS switches always defaulting to N and 2 respectively when the car's switched off.

Oh yes. Did the first one once. Was fortunately only a couple of miles, but was still silly.

In the short period of ownership, that has become second nature now, switching to Kers3 and Eco mode, even before driving off, or very soon after.

or as @Archev said once.....

Hi greeting. Yeah that’s my action just before turning the dial for forward motion - I pinch the mode and Kers switches such that the result is eco and 3.

or as @Paul Mason put it.....

That's what I now do all of the time. I call it the 'geriatric twitch'

:)

Tried to turn on my wipers to clear the morning mist.
Nothing.

Everything else on the car worked fine, so i set off to work.
Tried a few on/offs when sat at lights, nothing.

Pulled up at work and turned the car off, 2 seconds later the wipers and washers had a fit 😅

When they stopped after a few seconds all was well in the world again.
This is a new one on me.

Most annoying thing for me is the radio that keeps coming on when you start the car up.
If you press and hold the button on the volume nob before you turn the car off the infotainment system is turned off and just shows the time. It stays off when you get back in so you can control when it comes on and at what volume 😁

Great find john973, and thank you for your posting and the tip within it, many times in the past 18months or so, here on the forum people have ask how you can stop the radio coming on when starting the car and you appear to found an answer, John so well done and thank you.👍👍
I have just tried it on my MG5 and it works.

The only thing to be aware off is when you switch the radio back on the volume is where you left it so when turning it off as John has Described above, turn the volume down before you turn it off job done.

Beep, take your key Beep, take your key, Beep take your key, beep take your key

It's in my *** pocket!
The really annoying thing is, if you open the boot using the boot release on the key, and then happen to put the key in the boot whilst you are rummaging through the contents, it doesn't beep, it doesn't bong, it doesn't even whisper at you. Just quietly let's lock the key in the f#!*@& boot!

I have the 2022 MG ZS EV Trophy, this does not have the radio knob. The radio comes on when starting and the only was have found to stop it is to press the left side centre button on the steering wheel, but this has to be done on each start-up. Does anyone know how to switch the radio off so it doesn't come on when starting up?
