MG5 battery charge API

I've been told (by Ohme) and read on here that other charger manufacturers say the same that MG doesn't provide an API by which the charger can observe the state of charge of the battery. Is anybody aware of whether MG have any plans to provide such an API? And any knowledge of timescale or interface details?
 
I suspect that the answer is No. There is certainly nothing for the iSmart system on the ZS in China, Thailand or Europe, and the iSmart in the MG5 is apparently less functional than the ZS so I wouldn't hold your breath. The API calls made by 3rd parties must represent a considerable cost to a manufacturer for little benefit to them - how many sales are MG losing by not providing this facility given the lack of current supply?
 
id be interested as ive been told MG dont have an API to read the battery state.... but i was at a fast charger on the weekend (gridserve 60kw) and that was able to read and monitor the battery status just fine.

My only thought was if the AC (type2) v's DC (CCS) had different communications protocols, but id have been surprised as i thought it was just a high current DC connector on the CCS)
 
interesting... did a bit of reading, from is there an EVSE that reads the soc from the car? so i have no idea if its true or not

that would explain why the fast charger was able to read the state directly from the car, but Ohme wouldnt as the car has no internet / cloud connectivity.
 
From what little I know, I think that rapid DC chargers do have a different communications stream with the car, but that doesn't help communication with an AC home charger

As you have discovered, the protocol is entirely different. It's unlikely that the Type 2 protocol will change or be superceded any time soon. So until then it'll only be DC connections that can read SoC. Sadly the bi-directional charging protocol ISO15118 doesn't contain it either.

That is a rapid charger, not a fast charger.
Sorry to be a pedant but it does avoid confusion if the right terminology is used. :)

If you mean in terms of ohme integration. No and there cannot be with the current range,
As per my post above the charger integration is with cloud systems, not with the car directly, and the mg5 doesn't have one (hence why it doesn't have a mobile app etc)
 
Yes it can, for example the ABRP service. But this requires the car to be awake to poll the details which risks running the 12v battery down and a suitable mobile data connection (provided by your phone with ABRP whilst in use for Nav).
So it's possible but not simple. Alternatively wait for the new model.
