RE: Buying MK1 Exclusive

We owned a Mk1 Exclusive for just over a year and replaced it with an MG5 Exclusive LR. We collected our new Mk2 Trophy LR on the 1st September, which replaced a Hyundai Ioniq Electric, so we now own a ZS and MG5. I'd say the Trophy LR feels better built, better finished and a more solid car than the Mk1, not that we had any issues with the Mk1, we really liked it and that's why we stayed with MG. We think the Trophy LR drives a bit better too, which coupled with the better range and better tech made it a no-brainer when replacing the Ioniq. I'd say the MG5 drives the best of the three MG's we've owned so far but I am hoping the MG4 will be a step up again, which appears to be what the reviews are indicating. My advice would be to go with the Trophy. You might not need the longer range but you won't charge as frequently and on longer journeys you will have a higher proportion of cheaper home charging versus more expensive rapid charging, which will result in lower running costs per trip.
The op wants to buy a mk1 exclusive & you recommend he coughs up for a LR trophy instead? 🤔 which appear to be as rare as the proverbial rocking horse s### & priced accordingly...

MK3 - Blimey, have MG shipped all MK2 orders.

I understand your point though, interesting to reflect on. MG4 not suitable for me and my family.

What do you own MK1 or MK2?

Thanks
Mk3, for sure. The Mk1 & its 'facelift' are still old ICE conversions. With the launch of the MG4 this shows now a dedicated EV platform with other models yet to come sitting on that tech. Mk3, obviously will come.

Think the op wanted forum members opinions on the two options he is considering, which is what I have given and my reasoning. Sorry if you feel my opinion is not valid!

For what my two Penninth is worth, I agree. I believe the current gen 1 and gen 2’s are very quickly gonna become an old design and are aready dated.

in my opinion, I believe the MG4 is indeed a ‘disrupter’, and think that after MG bring out the MGC in readiment for the 100 yr anniversary, the 3rd generation of the ZS will be very quick on its heals.

Love all the replies its all good. I can't afford a MK2 right now so gone with a MK1. I very rarely do more than 100 miles a day. MK3 isn't going to be here for ages looking at the delays to MK2 shipping.

Thanks everyone.

Hi - i have a very similar situation as yours and am looking out for mk1 zs, however a few ads mention the range as 135 miles.. if this due to battery deterioration? What range do you get with your car?

Thanks

I'm not aware of any MGs that have suffered any significant battery deterioration to date. The range is a function of speed and weather. Driving around town on a warm dry day without any heating or cooling and it is possible to get around 180 miles to a charge. Driving in excess of 70 mph on a cold, wet day with heating on full and that might drop to around 100 miles.

It is pretty rare for me to do more than 100 miles in a day so generally I just charge up the night before and drive as I like. On days where I have a much longer journey, I would generally be looking to charge 110-120 miles along the route, but that depends upon the placing and reliability of chargers. Last time I visited my mother who is 250 miles away I managed a first leg of 140 miles before charging to 90% and completing the final 110 miles. That needed just one 50 min stop while we had lunch. I was driving fairly gently but at speeds of about 65 mph where allowed and with a pretty well loaded car. AC was on low.

On recent thread, battery degradation on the Gen1 ZS EV was spoken about.
An owner who has a car that has covered 40,000 miles, has checked his SOH by using VCDS software has reported a SOH of 92%.
This would suggest some battery degradation is present of course.
Similar figures have been witnessed by other owners.

2020 Gen 1 ZS, 99% of my use is short urban journeys of 3 miles each way every day and I get over 160 miles range in Summer and around 130 miles in Winter with the heating on.
