Dealers with allocation and what specs etc.

Tut, tut Jon - no 1 refreshment of choice is malt scotch although have been know to default to anything that's left in the event of supply failure🥃🥳

Ordered the Trophy in Holborn Blue (I dithered over the orange). My dealer is expecting allocation sometime w/c September 26 (although he did say that was an estimate). No idea what they are getting as yet. As far as my order is concerned, was advised likely February. He has taken a lot of orders. This suits me as my current car (EV, not MG) deal ends then.

Ordered a white Trophy today. Dealer is getting first demonstrators next week, so subject to test drive. Delivery expected to be several months (could be early next year), but they don’t know what they are getting off each boat until it arrives. Might be offered an alternative colour if one comes through but told that Trophy very popular so longer wait than other models.

Happy to wait, this looks like an amazing vehicle at a good price. Migrating from Skoda, VW offerings are ok but cannot compete on price and I prefer the MG.

Curious as to the outcome, in your case. I’ve been offered a red trophy, from first allocation, which I will take if there’s no chance of a grey one (apparently I would get pushed back to November). I am number 2 on the order list and number 1 is getting an orange trophy.
What a joke this is turning into.

I get told I need to order red. So order red then get told we have no red. Meanwhile other orders are getting options in.

It's a really poor form from MG and also just putting the fight with the buyers amongst ourselves as we scramble for first allocation.

I ordered the first day of order books are and now am finding a number of later orders are being fulfilled ahead of the first ones.

Is MG and/or MG dealers trustworthy/truthful?

I don't understand why it should be so hard to buy an item that is made and ready to deliver. Grr. Feeling fed up with this whole thing

@ukflyer? When did you order. I really haven't seen any clear info on how this allocation has been distributed

Try and chill a bit... It'll be here soon.

Nothing to do with untrustworthy dealers, they all have their reputations to protect.

Communication was/is clearly lacking between MG UK and dealers.

Ours is a first world problem when so many people are worrying about the cost of living.

It's just a car pal. 👍

Completely agree with you WF, however I do understand Racers frustration. Being told to do one thing then that particular thing not being actually available is a bit crappy

Agreed. I was pushed to choose a specific colour (I chose red), was the first at my dealership to go for the MG4, to now be told, no…

In the grand scheme of things I totally agree with you. I think it's more about having done all the right things; first order at my dealer, being flexible and changing colour (increasing my cost) when asked to, bring proactive and engaging my dealer etc etc.

It just feels frustrating now that all of that accounts for nothing and that energy probably should have been spent elsewhere. And then doubly so assuming that my allocation is with someone else late to the party.

I think you deserve a deal sweetener. I do understand your predicament and do not mean to patronise you in any way.

I ordered mine 3 weeks or so ago. Haven't heard a 'dickie bird' since. I've just taken the stance of no news is good news.

The dealer led me towards month end for delivery.

I put my order in 4 and a bit weeks ago. I wasn't nudged towards any colour, or given any indication of timescale. At the time they said they had no idea. The only contact I've had with them since was a couple of weeks ago when I phoned them to ask when they thought they'd be getting their demo cars in. They said they didn't know exactly, but thought sometime towards end of September. As for car delivery for me, they also couldn't say much. According to them, every dealer in the country was getting 11 MGs in the initial allocation, including the showroom and demo, but they had no idea of what specs and colours their 11 would include, so they could not begin allocating orders to customers yet. From what I read on this forum, dealers seem to be knowing/telling different things in terms of numbers. This may be because MG are telling each something different, or each dealer is putting a different sales patter to what they tell customers!

Waylands Oxford and Newbury are advertising that they have 6 cars left out of their original allocation of 26.

Not sure what those 6 are, but there is a 'enquire today' link on the page.

EDIT: It's now down to 5 remaining....

An original allocation of 26 seems quite large! And they say they're for September delivery.

Sounds like 'click bait' to me...don't think many/any dealers would be getting 26 cars in first batch, Maybe including the Oct/Nov deliveries..
As Waylands are the MG dealer in Oxford and Newbury, 26 could be for both dealerships combined.

13 for each dealership isn't that large an allocation?

Latest I have has is:-

"We are expecting towards the end of the month for demo’s they are in the country, bit of a delay at port sorting transporters according to one of the delivery drivers the other day"

and before that

"the good news is we have the demos on the way and I can secure you a black one as we have one of those available"

I think 26 between 2 showrooms is pretty high as Chorley Group for example told me they had an allocation of approx. 15 MG4s for their first allocation across 2 branches.

A bit of FYI for you, I know that the car transporter industry has taken bit of a hammering during the pandemic/on going supply issues. Plus the shortage of HGV drivers in general.

A lot of transporter drivers switched to other forms of driving and haven't gone back, I have three newish colleagues that 'jumped ship'.

What a time to be alive.
