So I got an MG4 Trophy in Grey for my wife. Even though there are annoyances I like it so much more then the MG5 I'm now jealous.

Internally the MG4 seems better in every way, however the boot is smaller. But it fits a pram and shopping, and we have no dogs for us as a family it works. When MG bring out another Estate or larger SUV on this platform I'll look at trading back in the MG4 but for now I just think it's a good choice.

For my MG5 trade in Motorway has provisionally offered just over 25k and WBAC just under 25k. So for a new MG4 SR in red it'll only cost another 1.5k.

Thoughts? From what I can see there's nothing better out there, we already have a Trophy so the SE short range will do as a second car.

That’s high praise for the MG4! I suppose the alternative considerations might be to wait for the face lifted MG5, and to consider whether having all your eggs in one basket is a good idea (e.g. if some longer term issues emerge with the MG4 range of cars). However, I think it sounds like you have made up your mind, and who can blame you!

Coming from a Suzuki Vitara, I’m more than happy with the boot space of 363 litres, or 1177 with the seats folded. The Vitara is 375 and 710 with the rear seats down, so the MG4 loses a bit with the seats up, but gains over 400 litres with the seats down. Plenty of space to put my bicycle in.

But as to your last thoughts, considering the design, practicality, functionality and price, I agree, “there’s nothing better out there.”

Problem I find with the facelift MG5 is to me it just looks like the old one with a new nose on it.

I think the next one based on the new platform will be great but the facelift to me isn't facelifted enough.

One of the main criticisms was the position of the central screen. That is now in a similar position to the MG4

Interesting subject and, I suspect, many 5 owners will be thinking the same. I know I am, once my local dealer gets hold of a demonstrator.

With regard to boot size, I had a Golf before the 5 and would guess that the 4 and Golf have similar sized boots, so whilst mor space is always useful, I can manage with less room.

I'm considering changing to the new MG5 when it appears but at £34000 for the Trophy with a colour I'm not so sure.
I really liked the MG4 but due to other reasons it is not suitable unfortunately so I may just hang on to what I've got. Maybe the grass is always greener effect distracted me from appreciating what I already have. 🤷‍♂️

Most posters have already mentioned what I think on the subject.

as a massive Segway (apologies), as you are already a two car EV family (at least I think you were/are), have you ever been in a situation where you have both charged at the same time?

Say using a Home rapid and a granny charger, and if the home charger gave 6.5 to 7 KWh rate at the same time as the granny?

Iam gusessing a simple “No” answer to this 😁

No never. We don't do enough miles. And I'd never let it go down to a level we couldn't get anywhere within say 50 miles for emergencies.

I guess part of the issue could be this, when you now park your MG5 alongside the MG4.
The 5 now looks a little dated in its styling all of a sudden, compared to the MG4 ?.
If you bought an estate car, then it was likely that at that time, you needed the large rear space that is offered by an estate car ?.
If your usage pattern has now changed and the MG4 will do the job, then it makes perfect sense of course.
It’s a time for a “head or your heart” moment of reflection.
The small ( ish ) price to change is a major factor in this process of course.
The high residual valve of the 5 makes it very tempting offer to change to the 4.
If somebody needs an affordable EV estate car, then it has to be a MG5.
This must help in its residual value I guess ?.

thats gready we cant even get our mgzsev that was ordered months ago
Well I think you might get the chance of your ZS sooner now Les because quite a few on here have said, they have cancelled there orders for the ZS in favour of the MG4 I believe, so keep you ear to the ground or do a bit of ringing around you-never know what might pop up
Les

i finally had the 4 demonstrator the other day, and boy does that go. I thought the 5 was decently quick on the overtakes, but the 4 feels really quick.

As a matter of interest, I still have my Golf R (now for sale, if anyone interested), which I moved from, so thought it would be a good idea to compare the 4 with the Golf, side by side.

As far as I could tell it is slightly longer, back seat room is fractionally better and boot space is much the same, give or take an inch or two. So, a direct rival?
