can anyone confirm if CarPlay connection is wireless on the MG4 please?

I was just about to put my cplay2air adapter up for sale as I assumed that this technology would be pretty standard nowadays. Fords have always been behind with that sort of thing and I had to get it for my 2020 Puma, and I thought I wouldn't need it any more with the MG4. but I thought I'd best check here.

(40 years ago I was told 'never assume anything' and here I am still doing it :) )

Sorry to hijack but what are your thoughts on the adapter you have? I would have thought it should have been wireless too. Happy to live with it but if adapters are a good user experience then ill get one of those.

NP :) - its been absolutely fine in my Ford Puma for the last two years. very very rarely it did not connect, but a swift reboot solved it every time. I'm hoping it will just plug and play in the MG4 now

I struggle to see the point of wireless charging in a car if wireless AA/CarPlay is not also supported.

And to expand on that ... some (many?) phones won't support both wireless charging and wireless AA/CarPlay at the same time, meaning the phone would have to be plugged in anyway.

So if the phone needs to be plugged in, what's the point of wireless charging?

Because not everyone wants to use CarPlay or Android Auto?

Couldn’t agree more, wireless charging but no wireless carplay, strange decision

What's the beat device to use wireless android auto? I know there's a few you plug into the USB port?
I’ve been looking at this. There’s a thread on Reddit, CarPlay but to be honest, none of them look great, I think they all suffer with lag. I’m going to have to deal with the 1st world problem of plugging the phone in every time, annoying.

I think wireless CarPlay/Auto is hard to do reliably and that’s the point and why many manufacturers either still don’t do it or have taken years to support it. Remember also Teslas don’t support any CarPlay/Auto at all.

I don’t find plugging in my phone to be a problem: indeed it is a good way to make sure I don’t pick it up while driving and cost myself a hefty fine and 6 points.

In my previous car the iPhone just fitted on the charging mat, but would not if a cable was plugged in. cplay2air was the fix for me there, and it looks like the charging mat on the mg4 may be big enough to incorporate a plugged in cable too(in an iPhone 13 pro) so maybe not a major issue

I think it is big enough. I have a 12 Pro and there was room around it, although I didn’t plug it in on my test drive.

I have one of these, very small, plugs into USB and links to phone wirelessly. AA connects very quickly.
NB this is for Android Auto, NOT Apple Carplay.

FWIW - I was quoted $7 shipping via DHL Germany on their website.
That works out at around £85-ish at today's exchange rate.

very expensive just to save you plugging it in. If it was £15 id get one
I've got one of the Android Auto dongles and it works very well. As you say I guess it depends what value you put on going wireless with AA, but I doubt any of these dongles will come down to £15 anytime soon.
Personally I find just leaving my phone in my pocket, getting in the car and AA being ready by the time I press the ZS start button is well worth the asking price. Reliability of wireless AA connection appears better than plugging in too, as sometimes I had to plug/unplug the USB connection several times to get AA working properly.

my cplay2air was around £100 at the time, which I certainly agree is a bit pricey - I 'think' its been just about worth it for me, but then I'm just sad when it comes to things like that...
