Official Plug In Car Grant (PICG) Thread

I am sorry that my post has caused such a kerfuffle. I read the Autocar article in a much more optimistic way than it actually is.

Just received this email response from OZEV to my query regarding the plug-in grant extension, which confirms the scheme is not being re-opened for new EV purchases:

To clarify - the extension announced yesterday covers eligible vehicles for the grant schemes that are currently open (i.e. not the Plug in Car Grant). The Plug in Car Grant is not being reopened to new orders.

However, this extension means that any orders placed through the plug-in car grant between 14th June 2021 (when this delivery window extension is valid from) and 14th June 2022 (when we closed the plug-in car grant) will be honoured providing the vehicles are delivered within the timeframe and the rest of the plug-in vehicle grant criteria is met.

We will not be reimbursing customers who brought an EV that was previously eligible for the plug-in car grant after 14th June 2022, or providing a grant for electric cars bought in the wake of this announcement, as the PICG closed to new orders that day.

If you are only just placing your car order – I’m afraid you will not be eligible for the grant.

Many thanks and apologies for any confusion.

This was mentioned in another thread. Some articles have stated this (Auto Express / Fleet news) but the Gov website itself doesn't state anything.

We believe this only applies for vehicles ordered but not delivered prior to the June 2022 deadline - i.e. the delivery deadline has been extended to comply with the grant.

If the grant itself has been extended then that would be great, as all the MG4 models would comply. (Cost is based on the base price without options, so the Trophy would comply even if you selected higher cost paint).

Sorry to rain on your parade but it's a 100% cast iron no. The wording is terrible. The delivery for cars ordered way back has been extended to March next year. Not for new cars since Jun 22. The grant is still available for taxis, motorbikes etc. but excludes cars.

This is correct, confirmed by my MG dealer up here in Inverness when I asked on Thursday.

I too got clarification from DfT that the scheme extension is only for pre-existing orders placed prior to 14 June 2022 when the scheme closed.

The extension announced on Tuesday covers eligible vehicles for the grant schemes that are currently open (i.e. not the Plug in Car Grant). The Plug in Car Grant is not being reopened to new orders.

To note, new orders for the other plug-in vehicle grants (vans/trucks/taxis/motorcycles/wheelchair accessible vehicles) will be eligible for this extension until 31st March 2023.

Hi all,
Are there any home owner ozev grants still available.

So I own my own house (well in 12 years time when I paid the mortgage off).
On the podpoint website to qualify for an ozev grant you need to ‘own, lease or have use of an electric or plug in hybrid vehicle’.

If there isn’t, would one classify a self employed person working from home as a business owner and thereby eligible for a OZEV grant?

i would say the only way you would qualify would be through your business. Only renters/landlords/ business owners are getting it.

BTW you wont get it anyway until the MG4 is added to the list (ive chased MG on that). If you are a business i dont think you need to specify a car though

It's a different scheme but yes if you are a registered business using that address as your registered address. It clarifies in the guidance notes for the workplace charge scheme.

Working from home

If your primary place of work is also a residential property (your home), you can apply for the grant under this scheme as long as your address is listed as your place of business with Companies House or HMRC.

The grant no longer exists, so you'd have to either:-
  1. Pay an electrician to remove your charge point from the old house, make the wiring safe, and re-install it on the new one
  2. Leave the charge point behind and buy/install a new one at the new house.
Either way, you're looking at roughly £600-1000.
