MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's just an overfilling mistake and not a more serious problems
Unfortunately the motor on ours needs a rebuild so they said they will replace the car but from the next shipment

I'm going to ask about this tomorrow when I go for my test drive appointment.
I don't think they will no to be honest you have to do 100 miles or so to no if it leeks

Well, after reading this thread I thought I had better stick my head under the back of our one week old MG4 SE LR and check. Sadly there is a definite leak, a few drops on the ground, evidence of seeping out of the undertray and being 'blown' rearward across the bottom of the car. My best guess 'finger test' is that it is thin oil rather than coolant.
Top marks to our dealer though. Following a phone call, car immediately booked in for inspection tomorrow am. Dropped it off tonight and home with a MG5 loan car.
Fingers crossed it is nothing too serious and an easy fix....
🤞 Sorry to hear you have this leak as well, but it sounds like your dealer is taking care of you well. Likewise, I hope it’s a simple fix.

Not good :(
Might have to change my order to a 5 as this oil leek doesn't seem just to be on a few cars and is getting more serious.
I’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on this thread. I don’t want to cancel my order, but reliability in a brand new car is not something we should have to worry about.

.... which seems like the most sensible thing to do all round, hopefully this turns out a win win situation for all. (I'm the biggest VAG fan, but just couldn't justify the cost of the Cupra Born - but also have a look at )

It could be something really simple so we just need to wait until someone comes up with more information.
I agree we need more information and as quickly as possible

So Alb it appears this might well be something very serious but can a table of which of the three models appear to be affected most with this issue, now I don’t know how to set up a poll or vote table on here, but perhaps Alb or someone could help with that.
The question that needs to be answered is, the leak on my,car is on my,

MG4 SE Standard Range 51KW
MG4 SE Long Range 64 KW
MG4 Trophy
So Alb or maybe it as to be Stuart Wright or who ever can this be done please ASAP so as to get an angle on this issue.
Thankyou
Les.

P.s. I have written before several times the if members Avatars where used properly and in the section, DRIVING, was the model you own or drive i:e in this case for the MG4.
Is it the

MG4 se SR
MG4 se LR
MG4 TRO
Or something along those lines it would be simple to see where the problem lies if its maybe only I particular model it must help I hope you might agree

It's already clear in my mind that this isn't variant specific.
Alb, good morning, well it might not be variant specific but I’m sure it could help to know which if any variants are more at fault than others helping both owners and perhaps even MG Motors to assess what the problem might be because for them MG this could have an impact on sales that I’m sure off.

Absolutely. Good reputations are built slowly and lost quickly. Are there any dealers on the forum with more information?

Our dealer is going do checks on all cars before they are sold just to make sure there ok and our car is being replaced when the next lot arive as it doesn't seem to be a straight forward job which I was hoping it would be and just to say our dealer has been fantastic about all this

Sorry if I missed it but did they give you a long term courtesy car in the meantime?

Just read on the MG4 owners page on Facebook two people had it confirmed from dealers it was overspill, so I’m hoping it’s just that! Meant to be picking my one up on Monday.

I’m getting excited and nervous as I ended up having to go to a dealers about 100 miles away due to issues with our existing local dealer order in order to get one, as we were promised one last week which then didn’t materialise and got sold elsewhere.

What would the procedure be? Would a local dealer be able to look at it? Or would it have to go back to original dealer?
