Home charger and main fuse

That's insane, UK Power Networks did both of mine for free. Are you on a shared spur with a neighbour or something?

Simon.

Same here we had a 60a fuse in this old house with a looped supply to two other houses & our DNO de-looped us gave us an upgrade to a 100a individual supply & it cost nowt.

I contacted Northern power grid about upgrading the fuse to 100amps. Well I was surprised at the cost. They want £140+vat for the fuse upgrade and then if the box needs upgrading as well its a further £500 + Vat. Making me wonder if this is actually worth moving to EV's form ICE. Why can one company give them for free and another charge so much.
When Northern Powergrid were at my property the engineer informed me the same about £140 plus VAT for upgrade but also told me to wait until April as they were receiving new funding for upgrades so should be free from then on.

Had a conversation with Octopus this afternoon and they will be able to help get the tails replaced and also get three phase installed. Not sure how that will work with billing

You specifically need a 3 phase meter of course but I thought the socket on the car had to be wired for 3 phase chargers. I am not sure they are.

That is very unusual for them to get 3 phase installed as the DNO own the equipment up to the meter and your supplier owns the meter to the CU which you own.
There are not many Smet2 3 phase meters.

Jomarkh is of course right the fuse carrier is ONLY the DNO responsibility. In the one case we had with 3 phase in only one phase could have a fuse fitted, the other two were blind ends with the feeds inaccessible normally.

When I had my Zappi the installer contacted the DNO and they came the following day to check the fuse as it was unmarked found to be 100A so no problems and no charges from the DNO because the installer had requested them to check the fuse so i suggest get the installer to do a request

Tails no problem, upgrade to three phase ???.
That would be interesting to see how they pull that off !.
Do you have a three phase supply into your home then ?.
A 3 phase supply for domestic use is fairly rare.

I’ve (maybe) got a three phase feed - well, certainly got three cables each going to it’s own fuse - but only one fuse connected to meter. Considered trying to get a three phase meter but can’t see any need 🤷‍♂️

Have you checked the charging socket to see if it is three phase? If the car is only wired for single phase then you will have no benefit on charging? Can someone post a picture who has the car to determine what is on the car

UK spec MGs are single phase only - or at least they’re meant to be. European models may have 11kW three phase.

Then there is no point installing three phase unless you are looking to install anything which requires a three phase supply.

Yes - hence the suggestion to "check the charging socket". :)

If there are physical pins inside the L2 and L3 receptacles then it is likely that the car supports 11kW 3-phase charging.
