MG4 Rejected but not dejected

You can ask if it was a rejected car and if it has a history of any issues and if they don’t tell you and it turns out it did, then you can reject as misrepresented.
Can't see a salesman ever being disingenuous. If you ask a salesman a direct question, you'll get back a truthful answer.

Agree!

I asked a salesman for a double cheeseburger with no pickle or mustard, and guess what?

I got a double cheeseburger with no pickle and no mustard.

Which is why it's put into the trade - the subsequent dealer knows none of the history of the car (unless it's recorded on the insurance register - or items replaced on the manufacturers service system). As an example, about 50% of MG4s might have an oil leak, but the existence or otherwise of a rectification doesn't mean that the car was rejected.

It must be very difficult to identify a rejected car if the dealer sells it into the trade. It then becomes a one previous owner car that's either discounted or available when the model concerned is on delayed delivery. I once sold a car with 200 miles on the clock into the trade when I got an offer of something that I wanted more, and made a profit on selling it. There was nothing wrong with the car (honest 😃) but how could the next owner know? As it was they got a cracking car without having to wait and cheaper than the then current price.
Once mine has gone back Monday, not even I would know it if I saw it again.
It was registered with my private Reg on it, so will have a new age related plate from monday.

On another note my issue with the seat has been kinda confirmed tonight.

I drove to work tonight with the seat pad/cover we use for under our grandsons car seat from damaging the actual car seat, but I had it on my drivers seat and I could not feel any issue with the seat anymore.
Which would confirm that my seat is definitely at fault with being able to feel the stitching under my arse.
As others have said in the Seat comfort thread, nearly all have no issues what so ever with seat comfort in theirs.

Now it begs the question, do I actually try to source another MG4 rather than switch to god knows what going forward in the hope that mine was just a bad seat..!
I appreciate it also had plenty of other issues including the oil leak.
but those will be fixed before long.

I guess I would have a new 30 day rejection again with a new one.

Its just a lot of messing about.
I may try the demo car again at my local dealers (not the same dealer I bought from) as that should have a few miles on it now and see how the seat feels.
If its ok then that would also answer my question about mine.

Though if I got another it would be my luck I'd drop on another bad one though.

Find out definitively if your seat is bad. If it is, and that's the reason you rejected, I'd get another one.

That's my plan I think
There's nothing at all out there to compare it to for the price.

I'm hoping that it is a bad seat to be fair.
Most of the other stuff can and will be fixed with updates.
The seat would be a little more difficult to get sorted on mine.
Finding another will be the issue though as I need a car for work so another 8-16 weeks won't work for me at all.

Update

Actually found another SE SR also in dynamic red.

Was posted on the Facebook MG4 fans and owners group earlier today by a nice chap called Roger saying that one was available.
So I jumped straight on it.
Deposit paid

Mine is being rejected and refunded tomorrow, new one is being picked up Wednesday afternoon.
God I hope I'm doing the right thing here 🤔

I know there will probably be some issues still to resolve, mostly software stuff.
I can handle that
And even if it drips a little oil I'm ok with that too until the new breather comes.

But hopefully the seat will be all good in this one and God forbid none of the trims are dropping off.

So I'm happy again
Let's hope this time my NEW car actually feels like one and I can get to enjoy this one.

So pleased you are back in the fold. May this one be everything you hope for.

Quick update on my rejection today.
The dealer was fantastic and we had a good chat today regarding the issues with my car.
Sales manager agreed absolutely that I had been let down by MG with the huge list of issues on mine.
He reported them all to MG UK and said he had a reply which he would read to me once we were sorted with everything (he said with a raised eyebrow).
Full refund was processed and in my account while we sat there.
They processed and paid for my plate to be taken off and put back on retention.
He also read the oil leak bulletin out to me, no mention of the 50 mph condition.
Just that MG have said that the issue is purely with overfill and the breather is not really needed, but will be supplied to passify those affected that it won't return.

Which even dealer said is a weird statement and if it's not needed then why bother making one !

On to the issues with my car, he said (with a cough) he'd had an email from MG UK.
his tone implied he wasn't overly impressed with the reply.
at that moment I said
"it's not from Gary Smart is it ?"
he looked stunned and said
How the hell did you know that...
I explained how Mr not so smart had been dealing with owners on here too.
we both agreed the man is a bit of a dick.
Mr Not so smarts comments on my issues were as follows.
Reagrding the oil leak, badly fitted side trims, badly made uncomfortable seat, various software issues, Bluetooth dropping out, screen going blank etc.
He said....
Most of these are to be expected !
And the customer probably just decided that he didn't want the car.

Weird then that I've just paid a deposit on a replacement MG4 that I pick up Wednesday.

Even dealer said
So it's expected....
to have oil all over your drive, to not be able to take phone calls, to not be able to see what the screen is saying, to have the side trim coming away.
And to not be able to drive 15 miles without getting a pain in the arse.

I can see Mr not so smarts manager getting some feedback from the dealer too.
What a complete tool !

Overall the rejection process was painless (apart from the time taken to return it 150 miles round trip) and was dealt with sympathetically and professionally by them.

With regard to my car, he did say that they will probably use mine as their demo car and sell their demo car as they wouldn't want to pass mine onto another buyer until they are 100% that any issues have been sorted.

Anyway onwards and upwards for me hopefully.
New MG4 on Wednesday.
Fingers crossed all is good

Mr Smart aside, sounds like an excellent dealer experience.

Just had the email from Charles Warner regarding my rejection.

Absolutely not a problem at all.

Dropping the car off on Monday for a full refund.
Didn't try to argue at all, superb dealer.
I wonder if they've anything in to replace the MG4 🤔

I would happily buy from them again in an instant.
Please post your dealer experiences in the appropriate thread in the dealers forum 👍🏻

They must be very sure of rectifying the issues to avoid putting other customers off. Of course the cynic in me says that they'll fail to register it to themselves (legally held as a motor dealer), then sell it as ex-demo to explain the one former owner allowing the purchaser to assume that the former owner was the garage.

Most of the stuff can and will be sorted
Which is what I planned initially until the seat issue.
On a test drive you may not initially notice it as the miles in the seat won't be huge.
But after a while sat in it, it showed to me and was really uncomfortable

The other stuff is oil leak and software which can be sorted.

They can't do anything until the V5 comes back to me anyway which I have to pass onto them as my personal plate was assigned at first registration and they removed it yesterday.

I will take a note of the new reg though in case it pops up on here with the same seat issue later

I had reason to drive my Wife's 2014 Leaf 24 today on my daily route, and sadly came to the realisation that I actually preferred in to the my MG4.

It just worked. I hadn't needed to get up twice overnight to restart the charging when it failed, I hadn't had to:
  • reset the driving mode
  • reset the regen mode
  • turn off the speed limit assist
  • turn of the auto AEB and reduce the severity
  • turn on the speed limit assist at manual
just to get started. Then when I wanted to change the regen level during the drive I didn't have to take my eyes off the road to go through various menus to change it. The average consumption for the trip was 4.4miles/kWh rather than the 3.7miles/kWh in the MG recently. I didn't have to worry about oil leaks or undertrays falling off - they haven't to date and at 1/3rd of the value I don't frankly care.

So I have thrown in the towel and rejected it. I'll not be back in another MG for a while.
