I’ve been looking about for an answer on why some settings are not persistent and have to be reselected every time the car is started.

NCAP safety testing mandates some settings default to on and have to be manually disabled. Not sure if this is directly mandated or manufacturers do it so that the car will pass by having them on by default.

WLTP testing requires things like driving modes default to “normal” or equivalent, although this is EU we use it too (or are still effectively covered by it).

Does anyone know others or know any more details?

It’s a lottery with the 4.
Prime example is the lane assist.
I count myself lucky my car remembers I want it off, others aren’t so lucky and need to switch it off every journey.

Is traffic sign recognition one of the settings that MUST default to "on" to achiveve the desired NCAP rating?
'Cos I find that one particularly annoying
First thing I do when I get in the car is switch to eco and turn the TSR off.

you can get rid of it quickly if its on by pressing and holding the Steering. Wheel Button on the Left Side of the Steering Wheel (Under Voice Control) hold it for about 5 secs and it disables the Speed Recognition Camera.

Really, on the 4?
This will be a godsend.
My BIL’s 5 gets rid of it by pressing ‘ok’ on his steering wheel, but we dont have an ‘ok’

Thanks for that I'll give it a try!

Didn’t work for me, that star button on the left hand side of the wheel does sweet fanny adams. 😢

Not on mine it doesn’t

To be fair, most of the buttons on my steering wheel seems to do sod all.
Least intuitive wheel I’ve ever used, can usually figure out stuff in seconds.

I disagree - I find mine to be very easy to use. Mind you I have an SE not a Trophy, so the selection options for the Star buttons are fewer. But all the others are easy and intuitive (to me).
