Breaking News MG4 Prices Slashed!

It has been rumoured for some time that in Australia the MG4 will start at approx. AUD$40,000 (approx. 22,000GBP) for the SR model and there will be govt. rebates off that figure.
The MG ZS EV was around that proportion cheaper than the UK model when it arrived here some time back so who knows, but I hope that is the case. 🙂

New car and even used car prices have been rising ridiculously these past couple of years and chip shortages etc and stalled production have filed the fire.
MG has seemed to be a disrupter in all this along with Tesla bringing to the European market including UK boatloads of shiny new EVs (although I'm yet to see my MG4 I paid reserve on in August, but, I'm getting ahead of myself).

But, according to the well-researched EV and EV Market analyst "The Electric Viking," MG is about to really shake up the legacy automakers as the entry-level price of the MG4 has been slashed to UNDER €20,000 which I make to be under £16,500! So what will that do for my Trophy reservation I wonder and what of the policy of MG to fix and hold the price on deposit-paid orders?

To watch the Electric Viking's commentary on the price drop use this link

He always quotes prices before any taxes are added, MG are raising prices in January.

Until we hit a proper recession and there’s hundreds of cars already built and sitting without buyers then I can’t see prices falling.
My sentiments exactly, a new EV is extremely cost effective for a business to buy and run especially if the driver needs to enter these low emission zones.
When the business needs to move these very expensive cars on so they can buy new ones, we arrive ar a situation where there are thousands of 3 year old cars selling for 30/40/50 thousand pounds.
I cannot see where the customers are going to be found.
I lot of people have believed the hype of almost free motoring but now with the cost of electricity rising reality is kicking in.

In France the customer price today starts at 22950€ inc govt grant but ex commercial incentives. It is a basic version of the MG4 with smaller battery.

Look at MG cars France for confirmation.

I was talking to my leasing agent yesterday and he has told me that after a year of scratching around for vans he was offered 400 this week. He had said until December he can get cars quite easily as lots of dealers have been using the fake customer routine for putting though orders plus lots of people are cancelling their year old orders now they are feeling the pinch. There are also deals to be had for year end figures.
He also told me MG have closed the ZS EV order books again. He reckons 12 weeks for an MG4 SE about 4 (could have been 8 my memory is lousy when I'm on leave) weeks for an MG5 although he was sure if it was a facelift.

I'm surprised the EU hasn't put an import tax on Chinese made vehicles. The Stellantis boss is calling for them as they are being undercut and the new Euro 7 rules are going to delay battery development as they will need to stop R&D on batteries to develop the new Petrol and Deseisel engines to comply with E7.
I think I read the exit agreent means we follow the EU on car rules.

Do we know how much the MG 4 is giong to rise by yet? I haven't seen any announcement yet but maybe I missed it.
I'd imagine as much as they can get away with!
Inflation has gone up 10ish%, MG UKs bills will have risen even if the factory costs haven't. The corporation tax is jumping to 25% so someone has to pay that.
The pound has fallen just under 10% against the dollar since last year but it fell a lot more which would have cost someone some money which they may want to get back or hedge against further falls. My brother in law works in importing and deals with lots of Chinese factories and they generally like to paid in dollars.

well tell them send them over mines still not here 11months now vauxhall moka is 8 months from now if orderd one should i hold out for the zs ev then lol

No not yet, just all the mg dealers saying order now to avoid January price hike.
That's always the case with car salesmen/women regardless of what vehicle you are buying.
'You need to take advantage of this price and buy or order today as tomorrow prices may rise'

Could this be that the "The Stellantis boss" has been busy sweating his ICE assets rather than seeking the opportunity of developing new EV products that people actually want to buy. He then turns around and says there's no money in EVs because while Stellantis take the shortcut of cramming an electric motor into a tired ICE platform the likes of Tesla and the Chinese makers including SAIC, BYD and Great Wall etc have got on with the job of developing ground-up EV platforms. Cars that are dynamic and easier to produce in greater volumes than compromised Multi-Drive Train. Jealousy is such an ugly word don't you think?

Why waste effort on developing ICE to meet Euro 7 rather than EVs when ICE sales will finish in 2030?

That wouldn't be in Germany's interest as they are importing so many BMWs etc from China. And exporting so much other technology the other way. Anything not in the interest of the EUs paymaster doesn't happen.

The ban is 2035 in the EU, so many millions of potential sales.
