Ive noticed a few people have rejected their cars due to unacceptable faults.

I’m curious to know what happens to these cars, has any one actually bought one second hand?

The 2 I rejected were
1st one was at Charles Warner Lincoln
Red SE SR
LL72 KBJ
They said they were going to use it as a demonstrator

2nd was Read MG Grimsby
Also red SE SR
LL72 KBZ

Not got a clue what they're planning on doing
Personally I wouldn't touch anything to do with Grimsby MG.

Charles Warner were fantastic and very honest when processing my rejection.
Took about 10 minutes to actually hand the keys over do the paperwork V5 etc and have the money in my bank.

Read MG took about 10 days and even then I had to do all the leg work, ringing them every day to keep asking when I would see the money back in my account.
Even the last day I was promised it was on its way multiple times even though it was promised the previous day after we returned the MG5 they loaned me.
We did around 600 miles running about with Read MG since buying the car and trying to get my money back
75 miles each way

I tried with both these cars but sadly the MG4 is not for me with the issues I had with both of them.

Have just bought a 3 year old Tesla model 3, still under warranty with 31k miles on it for a little bit over £30k.
So only had to put £3k to over the MG4.

Not a new car but God damn it feels like one compared to both MG4's.
It's a whole other level is Tesla.

The whole MG4 experience has been traumatic to say the least.

But now I finally feel like I can enjoy my new car now even though it's 3 years old.

The customer service is awesome too.
I have found a foggy tail light at the back yesterday, which is covered under warranty.
Sent a service request last night via the Tesla app for them to change it and do a wiring loom recall check too that also popped up in the app.
They're actually sending a Tesla Ranger to my house on Friday to do the work.

Now that's how you look after a customer/owner MG !

Interesting, I'm tempted to the dark side with Tesla as well.

Your two MGs were very close registration numbers considering that they came from different dealers.

Mine went back to Chorley with just under 2,000 miles on it, a blue SE SR PO72ZJK.

There's a number of low mileage cars coming up on AutoTrader from dealers. I suspect that these are rejects rather than demonstrators - dealers need to keep demonstrators and prefer to sell them direct to customers when they cannot wait.

Yeah I never noticed until now
To say they were registered a month apart.

If you're thinking of going to Tesla
All I can say is
do it
Unbelievable machine
I knew they were good but never realised how good.
Light years ahead of the competition.
And the superchargers
Wow
250kw on way home from picking it up.
So simple too, no buttons to press, the charger recognised my car and started charging straight away and then just billed me at 40p kw
No buttons to press, no cards to tap etc
Cheap too

A little unfair to compare the MG4 to a Tesla. Not really in the same league. Having sat as a passenger in a Model 3 and driven a Model Y, I can say that I was pretty impressed though. Would I swap my current car for one? Unlikely. I certainly wouldn't swap to a MG4, but would recommend a Tesla if buying used.

However, it does show buying a used car is still very much a viable route. I've not bought a brand-new car since 2000. All have been 2 to 3 year old. Only ever had minor issues that have always been sorted quickly. Only my BWW 3 series let me down a few years ago, which I had to sell 6 months in.

I do worry for MG4 though when the used market eventually becomes popular as I think these first generation cars won't have much longevity despite the 7 year warranty. The drivers seat to me on the SR didn't look like it would last very long.

Enjoy the Tesla though, I still believe it's the best EV out there.

Why do people who don't have an MG4, and have no intention of getting one, bother posting on the MG4 forum? Some don't even have any intention of getting any form of MG car either. (Genuine question - I don't understand what they get out of it).

I personally find the input from these non mg(sic) owners very helpful.

I agree it is a bit of an unfair comparison like for like due to the price of new.
Mine was only stating for the same price nearly, I could change from the MG4 to a Tesla for not much more money albeit a 2nd hand one.
I really wanted to love the MG4 but sadly it wasn't to be for me.

I was definitely comparing the warranty thing though.
Tesla are proactive
MG seem to be head in the sand somewhat

I am pleased you have found a solution that works for you, especially after what you’ve been through. For those in the market for £30k+ three year old car, a Model 3 has to be at or near the top of the list.

Obviously it will be better than a £30k new car from MG, so as noted above, comparing the two is a non sequitur.

I am sticking with MG. I cannot justify the price of a Tesla and won’t consider them until new ones cost £30k or less.

That's an outstanding deal - the lowest priced Model 3 on the Tesla website is £34k for a 2019 model with 66k miles on it.

Glad you finally got sorted after all the hassle you've had.

Rejecting a car can be stressful, particularly if the dealer proves resistant. You can get a lawyer to handle the rejection process for you, although, of course, this won't be costless.

It's not just the warranty, it's the fact that Tesla react to requests. It probably helps that they don't have dealers or an importer, it's vertically integrated.

Not everyone is bothered about having a car from new, so for some of us it's a very real choice.

How did you reject both your mg4 ? Was it within the 30 day period? I am at week 7 and have asked to reject which they have said it’s not easy to reject it

My understanding is that you can reject a car after 30 days if a) the faults were not reasonably apparent within the 30 day period and/or b) the dealer has been procrastinating/time-delaying (eg with the promise of repairs or deferred appointments to attend to the fault(s) which never materialised). You need to have a good defensible reason of that sort. However, you are not generally entitled to a full refund if you reject after 30 days. For that reason, I would be engaging a lawyer to do the negotiation especially if the dealer was playng hardball.

Oil leak happened at day 32 booked in for 3 weeks locked in vehicle over weekend unable to escape which is a serious risk to life as mg don’t know what this is.and could potentially happen again at anytime.I have reported it to dvsa tonight they are going to be contacting myself and mg directly for a response.

That’s good. That will get MG to sit up and take notice.

Because people are sad.
