I've searched for this so apologies if it's in another thread but I couldn't find reference to this particular Android Auto & Google Maps issue on the MG4.

I'll often use AA at night in the totally unlit Devon lanes and it will often be in Day mode, white background, and is frankly dangerous with a huge amount of glare obscuring the road ahead. Yes I can go Home -> swipe down -> change the brightness and mode of the screen, but I just want to get in and drive and not have to change again in the daylight.

It seems that getting in, waking the car up, connecting the cable (waiting for the wireless adaptor to arrive), AA comes up in Google Maps, flick the lights off then back on and it reliably switches to night mode. I can leave the theme in Bright, brightness for daytime but now AA is in (edit dark to) NIGHT mode and not a hinderance what so ever - just as it should be.

Whilst I don't want to fiddle with menu options, I'm happy to flick the lights off and on - hope this helps someone out, it was really annoying me.

I've been doing this for a few weeks now too, took me a while to work out this trick.

I find even in dark mode its too bright
Thanks, I've edited my post for greater clarity - I hope.
The infotainment screen settings stay in daytime brightness & Bright / Light mode but it is Android Auto & Google Maps that now switch to NIGHT mode by flicking the lights off and on.
