Does anyone know if the lack of regen when in traffic jam assist or adjustable cruise control is a software or hardware issue. Is there any chance of us ZS EV facelifters ever getting it. The drop of range when using cruise control around town makes it unusable. I'm aware the MG5 didn't have it at first but then got it later on. It's a feature I'm desperate for so any light shed on this appreciated!

Hardware. It won't be getting it.

I don't doubt you are correct, from what we've been told, but I do have a hard time believing it's physically impossible when it does regen on the speed limiter.

I suspect its more a case of MG not wanting to put the resource into making it happen.

I can't imagine any other reason.

If it was a quick fix they'd have likely done it by now as they were pretty quick to come up with the fix for the list of stuff that was annoying on the pre facelift version (beeps and bongs etc).

It could be the control system (apparently a standard Bosch one?) they are using for the ACC just isn't that straightforward to augment with secondary brake/power source from. If its control parameters are brakes or throttle in the speed control, it might not be straightforward to blend in the 3rd parameter on this control unit.

Regardless, it's another fail of many on the software from MG.

Yep you're stuck with it 👍🏻😂

A reasonable theory is that the whole ACC system is the same as used on the earlier ICE cars. As such, when on over-run, the engine retards the vehicle without having to switch on any special (and proportional) other bits of software. Modern ACC systems work on the motor control system rather than a simple feedback loop derived from engine speed on the accelerator, so it is difficult to "add in" to an already complicated control system.
Personally, I do find it irritating during long distance routes, as any application of the brakes means lost regen and hence lower potential mileage.
I assume the same problem affects Gen2 ZS cars which suggests to me that an easy software fix is not possible. Has anyone tried the MG4 for this?

There is a really easy fix, a quick dab on the brakes turns off cruise control and you then have all the regen you could ask for.

Why use cruise control around town? Using limiter would be safer as you simply lift off the go pedal to slow; cruise means you have to do something else to cancel it. I also think cruise is less intuitive and less eco - but that's me. My SO uses it a lot.

Cruise is useful to know you are going under 30 without thinking about it, but that applies to limiter as well. I have not used limiter in the zs, is it easy to set? In my E class Merc, it requires more manual operations than cruise, so I hardly ever use it.

Though a colleague of mine is trying to get it working with a man-in-the-middle CAN device.

He already has one pedal driving working, but is running into problems with ACC.
He's sorted that one, though the solution requires another CAN channel. I'm pretty sure that this really could have been sorted out with no extra hardware, by the manufacturer. But that would have required engineer time getting dirty with firmware from another source (Bosch), and maybe Bosch won't give them access.

I also can't see why they can't have put whatever system the MG4 has into the ZS refresh. Surely it would not have been all that much effort, and the MG4 parts seem to be easier to source.

Edit: I wonder what will go into the MG5 re-refresh.
