MG ZS EV Battery heating always on??

Does battery heating work when charging on a 7kW charger with the car off ?

Yes it does.
Not on my car. Battery heating and charging are mutually exclusive on my car. If I want to heat the battery I have to unplug and put the car into ready then turn on the heating, although it is probably not cold enough at the moment for the battery heating to start.

1st battery has to be cold enough and car on charge then the app can be used (well it could but they removed the button but it may reappear when battery is cold if not you will have to use schedule)

When I charged my car this week on a Hypervolt at home, I checked it about 98% ( I was doing monthly battery balance) it said battery heating on also. I never turned it on.

Well mine was fully charged and then I put the battery heating on via the app .The charger reconnected and the battery was heating this increased my range on my long trip up north.

As I understand it, the battery heating is by default always on on my Gen 1 but only comes into effect at low temperatures (<10 deg C ? ).
I'm wondering if this may be the reason I was only getting around 3.5kW into the battery on a 7kW Tesco charger the other day when it was 3 deg C, the other 3kW or so being puled for heating the battery ?

Maybe. Or the car told the charger it only wanted 3.5kw at 3deg C 🤷🏻‍♂️

@N2STY might have a thought on this?

Sounds about right battery heater takes 3kw

Edit but definitely not more than 1h as battery would be 24c by then and it is only needed to be above 10c for 7kw charge

I should've checked the battery temp with the OBDII ZS EV app when I got home, I'll do that next time.

Or try the obd while it's charging and see how fast the battery coolant warms up if coolant is warmer than battery than it's heating if battery is warmer than coolant it is not?

Does the ZS EV app still get signals from the OBDII port when the car is switched off, I've always put the car in ready mode to use it ?

It really depends on what's kept awake when it's on charge you can put in ready mode when changing it just says you can't drive as charging
