Marvel R
Hi guys.
Just got my Marvel R performance here in Denmark. I’m overall happy about the car. But I unfortunately already experienced a few bugs in the software. One of the worst is most likely if I have my phone hocked up to carplay and just hear music or talk on phone the front sensors of the car is not working/triggering, so it don’t inform me about the distance to objects or even start the screen that shows this. If I unplug the phone the sensors start to work and will alert if I am close to something. Currently it’s seems it’s only the front sensors as if I put it in reverse the screen changes and alerts despite if phone is connected. Also noticed it’s not always the screen changes to cameras when I blink and turn. Without phone it works each time. For now I’m simply not using CarPlay in the car which is a shame as I’m worried about the safety while driving as I don’t know how the sensors will work when driving in heavy traffic and it should alerts me about possible hazards. I’m on latest firmware available. Does anyone know how to push software bugs towards MG so they can debug / investigate what’s going on. ? And do anyone else have similar issues like me?

PS: Also, is there a way to subscribe to a list to get news about upcoming software updates ?
PPS: people say it’s mostly UK people on here ? Is there a more general channel with more activity.

Thanks.

Actually I just tested today! Even without CarPlay it does not work as expected. If I drive in my carport close to the wall nothing happens. If I stop and put the car in reverse the screen starts and shows that I am close to the wall and activating the sensor. But just driving forward into it does not trigger any sensors to alert me in the front! Am I alone with this issue. ? I guess it must be software bug related as the sensor / camera does work when enabling reverse!
I guess I have to contact the dealer and have them check the car! Can’t see in the settings there is a way to turn it off so should be working all the time.

My last comment on this! Would be great with others to confirm. But seems the community here is not so flourishing as I hoped.
I called my dealer about this. And he tells me It’s by design(he thinks)! The front sensor / camera needs to be triggered manually when you put it in reverse. So it will never alert you before you drive into something when parking! It’s disabled because otherwise it would warn you all the time when you drive in queue he adds. Well yes if you’re too close it also should warn you before you hit someone. If this is true. I simply don’t understand the software / design. Why even have the front camera / sensor on the if it’s only activated when you reverse and don’t need it much.
Of course I know that it should (I hope) do an emergency brake if you drive on the freeway and someone in front of you hit the breakes or something. But in a new car that you don’t really know yet and the length can’t enable to have the front sensors to guide you when parking is beyond me. Very disappointed.
Again, Would love to hear other peoples thoughts on this..

Thanks for replying still.
I’ve just joined a Facebook group for Marvel R and I’ve found out it’s a software bug. Some have same issue as me and for others it works as expected. I will commit these findings to MG Europe. So once you have the Marvel in UK I hope it’s fixed. The RWD should come next year.
Thx

I got my Marvel R 2 weeks ago with latest firmware, and the same thing happens to me. Not always the front sensors work for me when I'm parking. When I want then to work I put it in reverse first and the front sensors start and the screen changes to show distance graphics.

This is indeed by design, and MG is not the only manufacturer that does this. If you want to activate the front parking sensors just put it in reverse for a second.
My previous Hyundai Ioniq ev was behaving the same, but it did have a button that allowed you to manually activate the front parking sensors.
The reverse-forward trick always worked on any car I've drove that had front parking sensors.

Yes this is indeed by design I also found out afterwards. I think it should have up to the user how they want it.
None the less. Came to say that you don’t need to put it in reverse. No doubt it’s the easiest, to do but perhaps not always a safe situation to signal you are backing just to park. :)
You can swipe down on the screen from the top like on phone and select the front sensor to activate it. Then on the steering wheel I have mapped (*) to open camera and then it works. That is the official announcement and also from their documentation when I escalated this to MG as an issue. It was by design and there was an “easy” way to enable it. I don’t agree, not easy and slow. :)

Yes, that too. I forgot about it. What they should do is to have triggered automaticaly when speed gets below 5 or 10 km/h. That is what my Peugeot does and it works every time.

Exactly I also suggested that to them also with reference to my old Peugeot. Their answer was that it was a Chinese manufacturer decision as they wouldn’t like to have the sensor go off in the car each time the where in a queue. And I was like well that where you would want it to be on. It’s only like 50-60cm the sensor so if it beeps you’re too close to the other car in the queue. Anyway. As many stated it’s in a lot of other cars like that. But I think they should make it as a setting for the European market where we are used to such thing just being standard. I felt like I stepped back 10 years in the sense about the sensor when I found out it was manual and even like so many others, had to report it as broken initially. I think we have to live with it! Unfortunately.

My thoughts exactly. Agree 100%

We have a lot of car washes in Slovenia that pull the car.
Therefore, the car must be in H mode or on.
But the sensors respond loudly to washing.
I wanted to turn them off, but I don't know how.
Where is the turn off button? ))

Ahh I see. Like that :)
If you don’t know the trick. You can swipe down from the top of the screen like on a phone or tablet and disable the sensors from there I believe.

yes, that's right.
But only the front.
And the rear sensors continue to sound when the car wash is in progress.

Yes, I had this problem with front sensors,,, just figured to do the reverse trick or quick menu turn on front sensor,,, but I would really like toggle option to turn front sensor on automatically under 10km

And this could be done if MG would have like driver 1 and driver 2 profile,,, were all your settings would be saved
