Not an MG
Have an MG4 trophy on order since beginning of October. Was promised delivery end of January/early February.
But now dealer informs me that he has no idea when it will arrive.

I am without a car right now and can't wait months for the car.

Am looking at used tesla model 3 standard range +.

From YouTube videos it seems like the standard range performs better in terms of range than the mg4 trophy with a bigger battery.

Even in winter it seems like the range is better on the M3 Standard Range which has a smaller battery.

Can any tesla owners confirm this.

Thanks

EV database is pretty good for that.

Model 3 is slightly better even with the smaller battery and the bigger car

Tesla's efficiency is really stellar. I had no problems at all achieving the claimed range on the Model 3 Performance. Considering the power and size of the car it is incredibly frugal. The Standard + has a different battery pack, so this might not apply 100%, but real world data (as @Leni16 showed) seems to be plausible. I'm having a harder time achieving the claimed range with my MG4 Trophy.

What is the price difference between the Tesla and MG?

Efficiency will also be affected by what modrl year (MY) you get, as in the UK late 2020 the face-lift model3 received a heat pump as standard, which combined with several other improvements made an already efficient vehicle that little bit more so

Not having the car, so I cannot share my own experience. From investigating through the web I'd say that the M3 will be more efficient (hence more economical) in general, especially because the Trophy in the UK doesn't have a heat pump while the M3 (if it's from 2021 and later) does. But one thing to consider if long journeys are important for you, is that it seems that the Trophy might be faster to charge on the motorway, especially if you charge on 20%+. SR+ has a higher pick of charging speed (170 kW) but it drops very quickly. So the overall charging curve of the Trophy makes it charge faster, especially if you start charging from higher SoC (like 20 or 30%).

The Tesla supercharger network is a massive selling point if you need to travel and charge - even with slower speeds the reliability and availability is fantastic compared to public infrastructure.
The early M3 were not brilliant in terms of build quality and there are also technical glitches (as with any EV). There‘s also the badge kudos of the T compared to MG, if that means much to you.

Is this still the case, though? I mean, isn't it that the superchargers are now available to everyone (at least most of them)?

No - only a small number of sites have been opened up; the vast majority are still only for Tesla. That's why EVM has decided to keep his M3:

You should be able to get a 69 plate for around the same price as a new Trophy with less then £30k miles on the clock. Can't comment on the range as I've not owned either car, but wouldn't have thought there would be much in it.

People with much more knowledge than me would be able to advise better, but there will be some slight battery degradation on a used EV and a 69 Plate M3 is pre-face lift, so as mentioned in other posts above, won't be quite as efficient.

If performance is your bag though the Trophy wouldn't see which way the M3 went in a traffic light race.

I've mentioned before, I don't personally think comparing a M3 to a MG4 is a fair comparison as they're completely different cars competing in different segments of the markets. A better comparison would be with a used ID3 or Cupra Born IMO.

I have read a couple of people who have gone from a M3 to a MG4 and are very happy, I've also read the opposite.

FYI - Tesla has just discounted their entire range by up to £7000

M3 starts at £43k
MY starts at £45k
Saw that you can get a delivery miles brand new Tesla model 3 for £42795. Immediate delivery

You can't really compare the 2 as there is a bit of a gulf between them interns of what they are and what the provide.
The difference is £9k ish, trophy with a bit of extra paint is over £33k. Immediate stock delivery model 3 now under £43k.

I have a Standard Range Tesla Model 3 (3 years) 19k miles, the lifetime consumption is 234Wh per mile, i.e. better than 4miles per kWh. I drive always with range in mind, aircon off, heater off etc. whenever possible without making life uncomfortable.
The real winner with Tesla is the supercharger network for journeys outside normal battery range & so long as the network is not open to other users I see no reason to change other than a newer car.
There is no compulsory annual service requirement, I was told drive until a light comes on, there is no service period.
Just had first MOT, no problems at all, brake pads as new because of one pedal regen driving, tyres only half worn.

Only 15 sites in the whole UK have so far been opened.

Oooh, wonder what this is doing to PCP costs.
The difference between the M3 and the MG4 is very easy for me to explain

The M3 is the EV I want.
The MG4 is the one I can justify.

The M3 and MY are quite old now in car terms (especially the M3 which the MY is of course based on). The M3 is a traditional 4 door with boot - the MY was quite late to the UK market to introduce a hatchback that many prefer.
I would recommend a test drive first. The MY has a very hard ride that won’t suit everyone.
Any move that drives down prices that were never going to be sustained is welcome, but I’m not so sure that is why Tesla have reduced their prices…

Reason why most will be dropping prices, demand destruction and recession all yet to bite.

Musk has made a few mistakes lately (I wish I was as unlucky!) He has broken the record recently for the most money lost from a personal fortune (not sure the times scales involved)
The launch of NIO and BYD in Europe is certainly giving Tesla competition where it didn't really have it before.

The M3 didn’t work for me, the MY did (boot wise), but didn’t work from a price perspective. With this price change I’ll have to re-evaluate things!

The MG4 was a compromise on a couple of fronts, but was possible to live with….possibly I’m lucky delivery has taken so long.
