Tesla M3 standard range 54kwh vs. MG4 trophy range?

Musk has made a few mistakes lately (I wish I was as unlucky!) He has broken the record recently for the most money lost from a personal fortune (not sure the times scales involved)
The launch of NIO and BYD in Europe is certainly giving Tesla competition where it didn't really have it before.
Yep - he’s lost billions very quickly. Not quite at the point where he’s concerned about his utility bills yet though.

New Tesla prices might be a big problem for Volkswagen. Who would order an ID.3 now when it's more expensive, much worse and not even available?

It won't affect the MG4 much, I suppose. The MG4 is still a very good deal.

but the Trophy price (+ £1000) means the difference is getting smaller. Used prices is where MG will have the issue, if Tesla Model 3 (2020 and up MY) if these 2 year old prices start to drop and come close to the £32K, mark then that would be trouble for MG

Yes, different story on the second market. The gap ist smaller and the Model 3 is excellent value.

But the MG4 base model is still a very reasonable entry EV.

My husband has the Tesla 3 LR and I have the Trophy. I have driven his many many times and I love it, he has had zero issues, yes there are the odd grizzle about seat comfort or phantom braking but in general he’s not regretted his switch for a moment. I was stubborn about his switch to EV at the time but with all the initiatives available when he was buying it made complete sense. Driving that car made me feel like my BMW X3 was like driving a fuel guzzling monster, on our home charging system the Tesla cost on average 2p a mile mine was 25p at the pump and I hate fuelling up with a passion so we switched mine to this new super hyped car. I didn’t pay much after trade in and it all started well.

I still don’t compare, I don’t think that it is fair to do that. I’ve had issue upon issue with the IT of my MG. I still want my chassis panel fixed, I want to be able to turn off lane assist and it stay off because I say so! I want my in car temp to be ambient. I want MG to wake up and treat me like a valued customer and show transparency in what they are doing to my car. All of that said and when you get down to brass tacks I prefer the drive of my Trophy, it feels smaller, it handles so well and it spins on a hair pin in tight spaces, it doesn’t launch me like a rocket if I am accidentally a bit heavy on the pedal. I mean we take out whichever car we feel like on the drive and I rarely drive the Tesla these days. MG just need to listen to their customers to get this right.

Just adding that I know this is more of a review than comparing range but I think with price drop on the Tesla more people will be thinking should I get what feels more affordable or stretch for the (niggles ironed out) Tesla. I think if I was up and down the country and the Tesla network not available to me then that would push me towards Tesla as charging on the go is so much more reliable. The range on the Trophy is good but when charging is generally advised at only 80% then that’s a factor.

I charged at the lakeside tesla chargers on Friday.
Of the 15 chargers 6 were occupied by tesla drivers.
They were very welcoming and I didn't get any "Hard Stares" at all lol

My brother has a Tesla and is forever having to replace tyres which are very expensive. He’s looking enviously at my MG4 Trophy
It's not just the purchase price but the day to day running costs i.e. tyres, insurance, servicing, parts etc. which some people fail to take into account when deciding on a car.

Must be enjoying the performance then, my mate is approaching 20k on his original tyres (mostly motorway and A roads) and his are still legal, although he is thinking of changing them.
Servicing is negligible for a Tesla, certainly far cheaper than the service packages mentioned on here.

Parts I grant you can be more expensive

Yep - Tesla = zero mandatory servicing. This is why I get so irritated by other manufacturers servicing requirements - just a money spinner.
I did 10k miles on the rear tyres on my M3P - great fun though!

True and dont forget after 2025 when all EV's have to pay road tax then once over the £40k price tag a lot more tax/year. One of the reasons I switched from Volvo PHEV to Trophy after first year an extra £510 to run Volvo. If rates stay the same then Trophy will be £155 and Tesla £520

Am I the only one considering warranty lenght as also part of my deciding factor aside from the £10k+ diff between a used Tesla SR+ and a MG4 SR? Because Warranty length is as much as important to me considering I am a cash buyer, think its easier for people on PCP etc to ignore the price diff between both since they are only paying to rent the car anyways.

The warranty on paper sounds great, 7 years! But it's like a lot of other long warranties the things that are covered for the 7 years get less and less the longer you have it.

PCP isn't renting a car is it? You can and should still have equity in your car at the end of your PCP deal and possibly pay the final payment and the car is then yours. If you were renting the car that would be a lease

Do you get a pay off in a PCP deal if you don't pay the Final payment?

Well Yeah about the warranty I ll rather 7 years than 1-2 years with a Tesla.... push comes to shove, I ll take legal action if they dont play ball.

It's not a pay off, it's as I said any positive equity you have you can use as your next deposit when you trade it in, you don't need to pay the payment to get that

Legal action! It all laid out in the terms of the warranty not everything is covered for 7 years. Some things are only 3

Consumer Rights Act 2015 still applies, irrespective of warranty. (But that's not the panacea that some may think it is - as well as placing liabilities on the seller, it also places responsibilities on the consumer).

But supposing you don't want to take another car. Can your equity be turned into cash, safe way you can sell a house payback your mortgage and keep the change.
