Does anyone know how to disable lane assist & speed sign alerts permanently …lane assist pull is really strong & downright dangerous on my local rural roads-sick of having to disable every time the car turns on-even a shortcut would be ok, but it’s awkward to do & really detracting from enjoyment of the car…come on MG, we need a software change!!!

Hi Victoria and welcome to the forum now you can disable LKA in the MG pilot setting in the centre screen so press the home button top right of the screen and then the car button on the bottom right of the screen then at he top you will see Driving mode next to that is MG pilot mode click on that and in there you will see LKA among other setting that you can turn on and off hope this helps you will find loads of information about this and the MG4 if you go into the MG4 section of this forum and look in Question hints and tips top thread is all about this issue as I said hope this helps you

If you have the latest software there is no way to permanently disable lane keeping assist, it re-enables every time you start the car. Totally agree it's really dangerous especially on rural roads. There's a single track lane near us that for some reason confuses the LKA so it always tries to steer the car onto the verge and you end up having to fight the car. Really dangerous at the moment.

As Guru says, picked up my car 4/11 and I could permanently disable the very aggressive LKA but it went in on 14/12 and they updated it and now it resets every single drive. I’ve reported it strongly, yes have it available on our cars for safety purposes but we shouldn’t be forced to have it activated if we don’t like. Turning it off whilst driving given the sequence needed to do so is actually a safety risk in itself!

Thats strange as my car had updates done just before xmas for door locks and LKA and mine stays off? However I still have the drowsiness alarm in fault (Yellow Coffe Cup) on all the time. Wonder if linked?

Thanks Les - I can disable it, but have to do so every time i set off - when you factor in driver mode resetting every time too, so that has to be changed - then the radio goes on pause every time you retstart the car & sometimes randomly connects with my phone music when i get in, this all makes for a time-consuming irritation every time i get in the car. Its downright dangerous to change it whilst driving, so i need to give my self 5 extra minutes just to sort all this out before setting off...its really frustrating & I wouldnt recommend the MG4 again on this basis alone....

My 4 is still at the dealer for the restricted top speed issue
If it comes back with an update meaning I have to reset lane assist every journey, I really will be bloody furious.
My car was one of the ones that remembered I wanted it off permanently.

Mmm Victoria it does appear there are some that will and some that don’t retain the off setting on the LKA as I said before I turned my wife’s off on day one and it still off don’t you about the radio to be honest but some here are now saying when they have had the locked in update done then it’s like yours after it won’t remain where it’s been set but did do before I do agree dam infuriating sorry my message didn’t help but it looks like a dealer visit for you with you car
Les.

I’ve emailed MG UK about this as I really want It off my vehicle and the dealers are powerless to do anything about it unless MG UK authorise
There might be no legal way to do it. Once I asked my dealer to remove the start/stop function of a Volvo (petrol car), because it annoyed me. It wasn't allowed because the car would not meet emission standards then. Might be a similar issue here.

I dare say, come time, aftermarket lads with laptops will offer their services going into the gubbins of the car and switching on/off stuff.
I had it done in one of my Audis, got the alarm chirp switched on, which is illegal in the UK but is there to be used by other countries.

Another point - if it’s ‘illegal’ or against NCAP to have it permanently off - MG have loads of MG4 cars out there where it IS permanently off (many owners are reporting this) - can/should MG be prosecuted or otherwise for sending out cars in this state? It wouldn’t really solve anything as far as how bad it is but MG can’t have it both ways can they?

I’m pretty sure I read some where it as something to do with the NCAP rating which is probably why some are now reporting things have changed with there cars after have software updates for doors not opening I:e where the settings stayed off now it won’t.

My car is one of the ‘permanently off’ cars.
I’m not a religious man, but I’m praying mine doesn’t come back from the dealer with this changed.
It really is one of very few bright spots in my car.

Oh dear - is the car that bad? I’m afraid from what I’ve seen it is likely to change to default on. 🙁

I think this could be because the rules only changed in July last year, just prior to the official release of the MG4.

Do we know whether the facelift MG5 has the issue? Even then, being a facelift only it might be able to avoid the new legislation.

Thanks. I thought auto-on LKA was only on cars 2022 onwards? Plus even if the rules did change recently MG have still sold cars manufactured after that to owners without LKA auto-on (if that is indeed the ruling). It’s a mess in my opinion. The NCAP document is not conclusive and in any case the main issue at the moment is that some MG4 owners are experiencing dangerous instances involving the functioning LKA.

Here’s my response from MG UK:

Thank you for getting in touch with MG motor!

I have checked this over with our head office technical department who have advised that as the vehicle comes with the lane assist/driver assist these are facilities of the vehicle which have been declared to the relevant registering authorities.

As part of the requirements of the NCAP safety rating this function must automatically be set to be turned on. You are able to disable the driver assist/lane assist but to meet the NCAP safety rating and requirements this will be set back to "On" once the engine/ignition is turned off.

Thanks again for contacting us.

Sigh.

This isn't going to be reversed is it.
