MG4 Restricted speed - weird

Of course it is!
I’m literally not driving the car I’m paying for.
I feel your Frustration I owned the car 12 weeks been in garage 7 out those 12 weeks but still had to pay and also pay petrol costs it’s not good I hope you get sorted out.and hope mine doesn’t break again or that will be me done

But one of higher value from a legal point of view, so you might not be able to blame them for that.

Honestly, I'm with you, I don't like the 5 either. Just saying.

Really curious if they can sort your issue. Sounds like a bad battery pack (or cells) to me.

Car been with the dealer two weeks tomorrow.
They’ve recreated the issue, getting it to stick at 68mph.
MG given them different things to try, all failed.
What would you do?
I don’t want to be a PITA to a dealer as exasperated as I am, but a line has to be drawn in the sand here.

I'd reject it if all the fixes have failed, to me it would be new battery pack to prove it's not the motor that's faulty

Reject it, two weeks is plenty of time to give them and there is still no fix in sight

I’ve just sent an ‘informal’ email saying we need to discuss a replacement car or a refund.
Let’s see their response to being nice about it, rather than going straight in reciting my rights and legislation references etc

It helps your case that MG have replicated the issue and still cannot find a solution within a reasonable time. I would be firm as the car “is not fit for purpose“. I would ask for a full refund (to get your money in your bank, not theirs); a brand new like for like replacement car; priority delivery of car and whatever sweeteners you would like eg free servicing, mats, V2L cable etc etc.
Your faulty car needs to be stripped down and examined to find the cause.

I think i'd reject it too. Even if they fix this, when another issue occurs then you will always be wondering whether you got a Friday afternoon car. Good luck!

@bowfer how did you get on with the repair to your car what did they say it was in the end

Still with them (3 weeks today)
The service manager says he’s checking the MG system 10 times a day and nothing.
They’re clearly stumped.
A replacement car/refund was mentioned on email on Friday.
The latter is my preferred option as I have zero faith any replacement car won’t have any of the myriad of faults the 4 suffers from.
I’d really rather just consign MG to my motoring history.

That’s not good they had mine for 5 weeks there solution was to reprogrammed the bms system which seems to have worked.I have done 1000 miles since with no issues but i still don’t have faith in the vehicle at all only time will tell hope you get sorted but if I had the chance to get rid I would definitely do that I didn’t get that option but that will be my next option if anything goes wrong again

Believe me, if I accept a replacement 4 instead ( and that’s a big if ), I won’t be anything like as patient with the dealer if/when it goes wrong too.

update
MG still stumped but have suggested a new traction motor is fitted and see how that works.
Rejection still being mentioned as well.

To clarify, I’ve asked the dealer if MG are expecting me to wait until a new motor is fitted.
I’ve stated I’m not willing to do this and reminded them it’s easily a total of 7 weeks the car has spent back with them since I collected it 5/11/22.
That should be an easy rejection case if I decided to be less friendly and go legal in then.

Given that it’s going to be some time until your car gets a new motor, what is your preferred outcome? It seems like waiting isn’t one - so it‘s either refund or replacement isn’t it? Asking what MG expect is irrelevant isn’t it? It’s what you expect.

Hard to digest that it took them weeks to come up with this idea. Is it faulty or not? Can't it be diagnosed?

Edit: Do you have access to a spare car? I mean when you reject it, you might end up with no car.

My preferred option?
Money back and I never visit an MG dealer again.
But if that’s going to be a protracted legal wrangle, a whole new car (pre done with oil overflow etc) will be grudgingly accepted.
Woe betide them if that develops any faults though (which it will, let’s be honest here)
