MG ZS EV Shipping Updates

I ordered 19th April with original delivery of the 7th or 9th of September. Been pushed back 3 times since. Order was just stock Long Range SE in black, so nothing special. The tracker now just started Jun - Aug. If it said speedier delivery, it sounds like a cancelled order so you may have gotten lucky!
Thanks. With what I've seen on this thread it looks like it's just pot luck so I'm keeping a close eye on it in case anything changes.

I will definitely be complaining to Octopus if the date goes past their original timescales because they said it was speedier delivery (and part of my choice was based on that) and they've also reduced the expected waiting time (which would be a really strange thing to do if they are experiencing delays from the dealers)! Fingers crossed there's some logic to their forecasts.

"some logic to their forecasts"!!!!
you do realise that this is an MG forum?

I got another email today saying sorry and that I should be prepared for further delays.... I need a car 😭

Yep, this thread it pretty telling! That being said I'm speaking about Octopus rather than MG in terms of logic. Octopus have seen what the lead in time has been for everyone else getting MGs up until I ordered late last year and therefore know the issues with MG but were still offering 'speedy delivery' and latest delivery estimation of July 23 which they've since moved forward to June 23.

If they can't get relatively near to either of those months then they are knowingly misleading customers when placing orders but, who knows, they might pull it out the bag!

Did that come from Octopus or the dealer? I'm okay in that I'm leasing and can extend/shorten my lease but if delivery dates keep getting moved it will be frustrating changing regularly.

Have Octopus offered you anything by way of apology or alternative (/available) cars?

From Octopus. They have short term leases available but nothing I can afford. There had been some limited available alternatives, but I'm quite tall so limited on the smaller cars!

I have received £30 Electric Universe credit and a soft Octopus tou for the kids (photo in previous post).

Went to my dealer today for a test drive of an MG4, drives well & has a lot going for it. However as I expected it's difficult for my wife to get in & out. Might still have gone for it even so. My Red ZS EV is still showing on shortage ordered by me in May against dealers November 2021 order. Anyway it transpires he has a Black one coming in February which is my least favourite colour but given the circustances I have decided to go with that.

Heard from our dealer this week and they're able to see that both vehicles we ordered are at sea and due to them by mid February depending on transporter availability.

They've been really helpful and are going to get them registered on the 23 plate for us so we'll pick them up when March comes along.

Will have been about 13 months from ordering, although it was supposed to have been a 5/6 month lead time.

Looking forward to swapping the ageing i3 for something a lot more practical. I am interested in the MG4 performance when it launches so mine might be swapped again later in the year depending on pricing and trade-in offers.
I was told in early December my status was awaiting “Manufactures country” and my dealer estimates February for my car. Did your dealer happen to mention when boat is due to arrive in port? I guess it is just wish thinking my car could be on the same boat 🤞

My wife's was waiting for shipment "on future shipment" from China at the end of November according to MG themselves, whereas at the same time, mine didn't even show as built and was an earlier order by a week - but both are now showing as due at the same time, the dealership has confirmed that. Both were showing as "shortage awaiting build" in September.

Last email from MG themselves was at the end of November:
"The first order status for 30000800xx is ‘shortage’, unfortunately, we cannot provide an ETA until production is confirmed. The second order status for 30000820xx is ‘on future shipment’ and the ETA is beginning-mid February 2023.

Your dealership will be in touch in due course to provide more information and make further arrangements in relation to your vehicle handover. For your information, the dealership can view MG customers' order status on the ordering system as they have access to the system."

Apparently the dealership can view the status, but we were shown they only have 3 status indicators that were roughly "in origin country" "on sea" and then "destination country" so nothing about build slot etc, but they definitely did see TBA for a while.

I would assume it'd be end of Jan or beginning of Feb for the ship to land, we're quite local to Portbury (Gloucestershire) so they might have a closer delivery timeframe to dealership than some due to them only being 25miles from the port?

I don't think the dealers even know which ships are due but just get estimated dates?

I have not found an easy way. You can track Bristol from here https://www.bristolport.co.uk/shipping/forward-movements
Shanghai is harder due to the immense amount of shipping but there is a simmilar site for that. I use Marine Radar app on my phone to track ships by name by looking at the Bristol list checking which are vehicle carriers & then looking at where they are coming from. It will usually tell you the ports they have been to & how long they were there. Hope that helps.
ps the ships often have names that help like Auto, &Highway, Grand or Grande Ace & Leader also feature alot.

Many thanks this is very useful info

Hi, as a help I have been tracking on AIS all the ships leaving the WAIGAOQIAO port (SAIC use this port to export their Cars), most are bound everywhere except here. Many ships have over the last few days departed but all going to other parts of the world. The one that I have found is 'Tarifa', this has a destination of Suez Canal but that is just a pinch waypoint, the next may be Gibraltar, after that you will find out where it's final destination will be, either Portbury or Southampton. The look forward on the forward movements is varied but really only about 2-3 weeks, the Tarifa is currently half way across the Arabian sea. If you plan the route to the UK you get an arrival date of around the 2nd Feb for Southampton and Portbury. Quite often off Southampton the ships are in a queue and wait on the NAB buoys of IoW for up to a week. Once on land then there is the usual customs etc. So mid Feb maybe if this ship is the ONE!!!!

Just a update from #8,773, 'Durban Highway' just departed from Shangei and is due into Portbury on the 23rd Feb, it is initially showing Singapore as a destination but that is just a waypoint. Hope this helps

Tarifa was only at Shanghai for 10h 40m so not long for loading. Don't look like it is going to Bristol.
Durban Highway is going to Bristol but was also not at Shanghai very long but is a possible.

Grand Victory & Grand Phoenix are both going to Bristol but were short stays at Shanghai.

I am getting Octopus to quote for the MG4. I can't keep waiting and borrowing this van. See what they come back with, hopefully they can make it affordable!
