MG5 Charging Problem

Had the same problem yesterday at the Tesla charger in Uxbridge. Tried 3 different charge stations and none worked on my MG5. Very frustrating having already been on the road for 6hrs on my slow crawl from Devon to Essex. Luckily I had 25% charge left so was able to get to a back up charge point. I have used these charge stations before without problem so was shocked to discover they weren't currently connecting to MG5. Is there an app that details known issues like this. I only found this thread after finally making it home.
As per this thread - the link will take you straight to post #8 with the relevant info.

They are going to do a software update next and see if that helps.

Saga continues - went in to dealer 12 days.
Software updates done.
Charging checked.
Just about to set off to collect it from garage this morning when the garage phoned to say another problem had appeared and we couldnt collect it after all.
So we get to keep the demonstrator for another week.
Bloody hell!

Mines currently In system fault after a failed attempt on a 120kw instavolt charger :( hoping it will clear in a mo or it will be a call to mg assist.

Edit after about 10mins or so with the car locked it cleared and I decided to have another attempt which worked.

MGs ccs seems rather finicky.

Ordered one of those obd2 scan/clear gadgets will be interesting to see if that works as that would be a lot easier then faffing disconnecting 12v

Do also have a Bluetooth dongle but it’s an older one and doesn’t work with my iPhone.

I did the same but the one I bought will only clear co2 emission or something, won't clear actual error codes.

Don't even know if the one I ordered will work at all on the MG5, it said it can clear engine codes but not ABS.etc ones, it's designed for an ICE car so may not even be able to read the codes.

I'll hopefully get it tomorrow.

I have the free version of car scanner, and I have a license for torque pro, but the dongle I have doesn't work with iOS because I bought it years ago and had an android phone at the time (It's too old to be BLE). If the obd code thing is any good I'll leave it in the car, it was cheap enough that if it gets broken by bouncing around or cold/hot weather it's not the end of the world.

Obd scan tool can’t even talk to the car so no use getting the cheap ones as they probably won’t work.

Instrument panel

What sort of information can you get from it?
Never used one before but might be interested after my issues.
It had a load of sensor readings although some were clearly wrong, I didn’t try scanning for fault codes with it.

Think the paid one does a bit more.

I ended up buying an insulated 10mm spanner incase I get the system fault again when using a rapid as it might be quicker to d/c the 12v rather than wait for it to clear itself.

Probably doesn't need to be insulated but at least then I shouldn't be able to do anything daft like short the battery terminals with it.

Update -
Got the car back yesterday.
Off the road for 10 weeks.
Dealer assured me that they had covered all the bases and ‘virtually rebuilt the car’, but I have just lost faith.
Straight round to my local Audi dealer and bought an A3 Plug in hybrid.
Don’t think I have ever been so disappointed in a car in my 50+ years of driving.
Depreciation for my 5 months of ownership is £9000.
From £27490 to £18000 according to ‘motorway’.
Let’s hope the next owner gets more joy from it.
(Or you could make me an offer…..)

Try Motorpoint — they tend to make higher offers than Motorway. That said, you are selling just as the price of second hand EV’s drops; and you are selling an older model just after the newer facelift model is released. Bad timing to sell. Good luck with your Audi.

I believe that the Audi A3 PHEV is very similar to the VW Golf PHEV that we owned for almost four years, before we went full BEV with the ZS EV ( Gen 1 ) in 2019.
The VW never missed a single beat in four years and was a joy to drive and was really well built.
The hybrid system in VW is very smart and is really slick to use.
The EV range is fairly small of course, but in EV mode you have total control of how and when you use that EV range.
Unfortunately, when you have lost faith in a car, it needs to go !.
Hope you enjoy the A3 PHEV.
