MG4 Undertray dip/bulge

The car went in for oil-leak. I mentioned the bulge. This is the reply
"They have told me that they will have to get the undertray problem sent through to MG to see if they can sort them"

Has anyone managed to get there fixed properly (rather than the technician managed to get rid of the bulge by messing with it)?

Just been to pick up my New MG4 SE SR today.
asked about the bulge and the service guy said it’s the smallest bulge he has seen yet. 😳

hi my dealer has said they will not touch the tray if they break it they wI’ll have to pay
mg has told them they will not replace them not even the demo car or show room car
if customer wants new one they will have to pay for it themselves.
they have taken photos of all of the cars sold with the bulge and complained to mg
am told if mine was to catch something and crack then it will make mg do something about it.if they are told anything different then they will sort it .they have been good so far had car in to adjust headlights and do all updates this has made a good differance

Sounds like a Mr Smartism ☹️

Took mine in for the lock out software recall and I asked them to check the undertray bulge Oil leak check and dipped beam too low. Very pleasant and helpful but Never heard of it apparently. I told them it’s a known fault. They had a look and mentioned it looks like the fixings are 3 or 4 mm out so that’s why it bulges. ‘It’s only covering the motor so shouldn’t be a problem”. I pointed out it’s an air scoop and could affect the efficiency, also it’s dragging in all the road muck. “ If I get any problems come back and they’ll escalate it to MG uk”. I asked them to escalate it now. They “don’t take any notice of forums, it’s like when you look up an illness on the web and get all sorts of rubbish “……..
they did sort the software, full valet and check while I waited though 🥹

It'll be interesting to see if the batch of cars arriving at the end of February/March still have the bulge.

Well, stuff some dirt, grass and a dead rabbit in there and bring it back to them. In case of the oil leak they can't not have heard it, since there is a specific replacement part and an operating procedure for it.

I'd be more concerned about the lack of underseal on the blue painted metal. Those sharp edged metal areas will be attacked by road salt and then rust will be a given. The cost cutting is very extreme on SAIC made MG cars and have seen rust on my own ICE ZS SUV 2018 reg when it comes to non front facing metal panels.

Has anybody got this fixed by dealer covered under wrarranty yet? If so, how long does it take from dropping off till a full satisfactory resolution? If not, anyone been asked to paid by himself/herself to have this fixed?

I collected my MG4 trophy right before Christmas and reported issues back in a couple of days. Droped the car off at very begining of this month to have both oil leak, under tray fixed and still not having my car back till date. In short, I paid for the car and stayed at dealer for much longer.

Also raise a complaint to MG motors UK , the response from customer services wored it as a "character" of the vehicle and no "obliged" to have it replaced. I wasnt expected their shoulders decending so much with wax coating.

I consider dealer to trying to be helpful but manufacture are quite appauling. If they are rebuilding the brand then it they need to try harder. I'd say 70% of my disappointment were from the manufacture response.

Until MG have an official “fix” I doubt anyone is going to get the dealers to do anything. See my post above which is a direct reply from MG customer services about the problem.

Gary Smart "characteristic of the vehicle"

Its a massive order of under trays that the holes are slightly out of lining up with the bolts and they have just forced them on.
Definitely a case of we have got them so we need to use them! Big bit of evidence of a cost saving as they have obviously realised they don't line up but stuck them on anyway.
It's pretty poor by MG to keep punting them out like this

Go big or go home mentality is prevalent here 🤣

Run that letter past your solicitor, the fact that they confirm there will be an alternative is confirmation that the original is faulty and replacement would possibly come under the 7 year warranty.
What else are they not obliged to fix under the warranty ?

MG Warranty states:
Warranty Cover
Guarantees repair replacement or adjustment, free of charge, by an Authorised Repairer, of any part which fails during the warranty period, as a result of a manufacturing or material defect.

Obviously you got the special release model of no undertray but felt you were missing out on the who has the biggest bulge competition
