MG4 Infotainment Cycling Between Screens

We’ve had an update to say no parts have arrived yet, so we are still in the courtesy car I picked up some time before Christmas.

Are we saying that a reliable fix is possible just by pressing the DAB button, and I don’t need a new screen? MG have said the dealer should fit a new screen, and that’s what l’m waiting for. Any comments please?

Equally, while my car is sat for about three weeks now at the dealers, should it be getting any battery attention? Would hate to think of it coming to any harm. I expect it was at about 70% charge, but the MG App can’t find it now, don’t know why not, maybe the screens not fitted.

cheers, MattsMG4

Hi, must have missed this post.
My screen will reset by doing a factory reset. I have used the car all the time and No courtesy car. Once you know how to factory reset its quit painless.
Has not flipped this year! However the radio regularly freezes. New screen being fitted to mine on Wednesday. Keep you posted

I only had the issue once, factory resetting fixed it and it hasn't repeated. Did need to set a number of favourite settings etc. The alternative DAB selection fix seems easy and doesn't appear to lose settings. It does seem to reoccur for some so maybe the replacement screen would be good as a long time fix. No sure why the dealer feels the need to hold the car while the new screen comes through.

My problem is the DAB/FM radio fails, so cant change to another station as does not respond to any touch on the screen.

Great - got this today after 5 days of ownership. Was listening to DAB - which suddenly went silent. Couldn't change channels, but everything else seemed okay.

When I got back into the car it was obvious that something wasn't right - it was as if the software was trying to decide what the actual size of the screen was.

It would display the first screen but a little 'small' with the first two options on screen two 'almost' on screen at the same time. The indicator at the bottom would flick to screen two, show screen one and just a bit of the first column of screen two, then flick back to screen one (on the indicator at the bottom) minus the buttons from screen two.
(Oops - should have watched the gif from earlier in the thread - my bad - exactly like that)

Reset using the 'Hold Home' trick- made no difference.

Read this post then got back into the car and persevered with getting into DAB radio and changing channels.

All went back to normal. (I have to say I fully expect it to happen again if using DAB - back to FM for me I think :) )

(Also got to say - love the car but there is a lot to take in!)

I said I would update when my new screen was fitted.
Excellent service again from VY's waited on site and done in 50 minutes.
Lets see if this cures my constant DAB radio freeze and occasional cycle between two screens on start up.
I will update in 7 days for anyone interested?

Been a week now and so far screen has behaved. No radio freeze and no cycling between screens.
So hopefully the head unit was the problem for those with similar faults?
So after my list of faults down to just the Drowsiness fail alarm to sort out.

A couple of short videos of the screen behavior for reference.

Factory reset worked for me took a bit of perseverance to select the menu etc with the screen flipping around.
Settings tile from the right screen, system then Restore to factory settings and accept.
Then needed to set all my preferences again.
I have also fallen foul of this issue tonight. Used the select dab radio station reset as above and glitch rectified. Thanks for the knowledge.

Yeh still been no problems and over 10 days now. So nice just getting in the car and it works.
Update is that the DAB radio still locks up. Happened about 4 times now in last 4 days.
Have it on FM now and will see if it stays on over the next few days. Car in dealers Tuesday for Drowsiness fix so will let them know.
They did say if DAB still plays up they can order a new radio module but had to try screen first.
Has not cycled between screens though so thats a plus.

In the infotainment settings you can add greetings that play when you start the car. "Have a nice drive" etc. Whatever you want. It's kind of a pointless feature imo but I had it enabled to see how it worked. The fact the greeting played suggests an infotainment reset of some sort happened though without any intervention from my wife.
Oh I do need to play with that😂

Update is that if left on FM no problem, DAB and it locks up.
Unable to get drowsiness fixed as dealer said MG download site was down and told to wait a week or so until software sorted. Booked in now for Tuesday 14th.

I have greeting on mine to say "Haway the Lads" #SAFC

I've had my car 3 months and had this cycling screen issue for the first time today - changing DAB station sorted it. Thats got to be fixable in software - if a module fails it shouldn't screw up the whole UI

Hi Folks,

Just had this issue rear it's head after 5000 miles! the missus uses DAB so it could have been that.
Followed the advice to jab at the screen until I could get into settings for a factory reset, all seems good at the moment.
As a side note that also seems to have fixed my problem with android auto "OK google" voice commands not working.
Silver linings and all that.

Sometimes it is easier for the dealer to swap the hardware to get a unit with different software when upgrades are not working.
