Not an MG
This is my first posting after a couple of months avidly following every thread on the MG4. Firstly thanks for that to all members.
I ordered a Trophy in early December with delivery expected 16/18 weeeks. Chose it over VW iD3 and Kya Niro. Poor communication since from the dealer (with a big South-East presence) combined with a vast range of problems here (with car and with MG and dealers response) has left me hoping for the best rather than being excited as I was at the start. I emailed dealer asking for some reassurance as to how they would respond to issues like the bulging undertray and they have so far just ignored me. I have booked a test drive of a Megane E-Tech this afternoon. More money but the build quality, infotainment and driver safety features seem to be much better. Define 'value for money'?
I know the MG4 is Car of the Year but that was decided by 61 motoring journalist handed a presumably perfect model for a few hours. There was no user input in the voting. They probably didn't crawl under it to check for leaks or bulges or have to deal with endless software updates and recalls etc. I note now that it's the same red and white MG4s used in the youtube videos by most of the journalists (check out the reg numbers!).
Moving on, I would welcome any thoughts on the Megane please. Personal choice I know but things to look out for that might not jump out at me...good and not so good would be welcome.

Megane is a good car and gets the same great reviews. In the end I cancelled my MG4 purely because the niggling doubts about issues, minor or otherwise, moved from the back of my brain to the front and became a concern. Once this happened I just made the decision for my own good. Its honestly down to how you feel within yourself. If in doubt.... As for the Megane it's seems more sorted as a package but as with MG ensure your dealership is up to scratch

Leni16 opted for the Megane (search using member) so a private message for that members thoughts may help?

As the Briggie has said I cancelled my 4 order and got a Megane, I know at least 5 other members from here who have now done the same.
First thing to consider is get a dealer discount, don't accept list price! I got £1200 dealer contribution and I know everybody else that switched have gotten similar. I phoned 8 dealers before I got that though
I have a techno spec and I'll get stick for saying it's on another level to the MG4 in terms of quality and functionality. Lots of physical buttons, including one for LKA on/off, no need to go into the touch screen menu for everything.
The Infotainment is Google so is on another level completely to MG's, polestar have the same and I've no idea why other manufacturers don't use it, as it is that good.
Handles great, quick, I'd say more mid range pull than the MG also.
Works brilliant with ohmes (full integration) and octopus intelligent.
Had it just over a month and a half averaging 3.3m kWh mostly short commute(16 mile round trip) back and forwards to work in dark, heating, lights etc on. Couple of longer trips over 50 miles.
Had 4 six footers in it all with lots of space, the no space for feet in the back comment is fixed with raising the front seat a little bit, which actually helps the driving position.
AC charges at 22kw (cable supplied)

It was Top Gears EV family hatchback of the year beating both the Born and MG4.

Negatives
Don't try to floor it in the damp in sport mode, it will light up the front wheels.
There are issues with Zappis, my energi are currently working on it, as they have said it's a fault at their end.
Steering column is a bit busy till you get used to it. ( Indicator stalk, window wiper, gear selector and small manual stereo controller)

Any questions just DM me, as I'll probably get told of for posting this😉

Thanks. I'll post after the test drive later today. The Google android infotainment system that works and has over the air updates is a definite pull for me. Strange that most other manufacturers have designed their own systems. Not surprising they are riddled with bugs. I don't want to be part of the community that finds them for MG and has to spend days with it booked in for updates.

So far the Renault dealer has been brilliant. My MG4 dealer couldn't care less it seems and that's a big factor. They say in the hotel and restaurant business that service is what they do for you and hospitality is how they make you feel. Well, my MG dealer is not providing the service (ignoring my emails) and is making me feel neglected and nervous. I don't really need another battle on my hands with a possible Friday afternoon car and an unresponsive dealer.

Here’s me thinking that this is an MG4 forum😯
Completely agree.
If you are going to cancel your MG4 order, that is your decision. But don't feel you have to justify it to other people on this form.
The MG4 is a wonderful car with the odd new production teething problems. No different to loads of other cars. But these should be dealt with by talking with your dealer.

We really liked the Megane. Currently keeping options open. Deals are there if you shop around. I don’t think that you would be disappointed if you went with the Renault.
That said the MG4 is still on our list (deposit placed) as we have a little while before we need to buy.
I am becoming more a more concerned though - more about MG‘s attitude to customers and getting items sorted, than the car itself - which overall is pretty good.
It‘s a big factor during ownership if the dealer is crap and MG don’t support you and a risk to take onboard that might be a bridge too far for some.

How long was the wait time on it between your order and getting the Megane?

I ordered my MG4 on 5th November (Motability) and I'm basically still on a TBA as far as my dealer says. With zero updates (supposedly they lost all the contact info because MG shifted them to a new order and email system so they had to wait for complaints to get peoples contact details again 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ - Not my speculation BTW This is what I was told and couldn't believe it)

I absolutely love the look of the Volcano Orange MG4 but I'm really considering the Megane.

Waited 5 weeks on the first deliveries, if you phone around you'll find a dealer with one, they are only coming from France
Just spoke to a dealer and they said if I'm not too fussed about the colour (tbh the basic White with Black Roof I like as it reminded me of a Star Wars Storm Trooper haha) they could maybe have me one end of the month as they are getting a delivery then.

This is really making me think because 25th Feb is my 16 week mark and MG Chorley have just told me their order system is down for next week and a half so no idea if they'll meet end of Feb date anyway.

Yes it's over double the down payment for me but Renault vs MG customer service is making me think.

I suggest you test drive one if you haven't already before making a final decision which will also give you a chance to meet the dealer.

Yeah he's calling me tomorrow with some details and I'll go test one with my brother as need to see how things are like seat belts, seat heights, door opening etc because of mobility.

Agree 100% with this dealers as we know can be great until they get the sale

I'm lucky there are a few in a reasonable distance from me so I have a pick of about 4 ish maybe 5
Also have a look on the forum under the dealer to see if there are any notes and feedback. There’s a section for dealers.

Ideal get one that can supply quickest use the one you like best for servicing etc.

In relation to you mentioning mobility, I obviously don't know anyone's personal circumstances, but I would imagine you are aware that although the boot is a good bit bigger than the 4 it's deep (down) rather than front to back and it has a high lip and I mean high so not the easiest for lifting anything big/heavy out.
Again not trying to presume anything just obviously something to consider

I also think within reason we should be able to discuss what we want, it's note state controlled media👍
It may not be state controlled but it is moderator controlled!
Posting on topic is always expected and required.
In this case I don't actually have an issue with discussion on the Megane because it's being done within a very specific MG4 related context :)
