Cancel MG4 Trophy and go for Megane E-Tech?

Come to think of it, the equity in our p/x was more than £2,000, so I think that's a big chunk of the difference.

Leni, you have been persuasive so we are going to pop to Renault tomorrow and look at the Megane and see what deal they would do with our p/x. No harm in that.

I don't agree. Even factoring in that discount the difference is over £5k and something like £140/m extra on PCP. That's hardly not "huge", it is around 30% higher payments.

People keep saying the difference isn't much. Great if you can afford it but as far as I can see those statements are not true.
tsedge. I 100% agree. If we were actually talking about spending £40k of our own money, I believe more people would see the massive advantage of the MG4 prices. You can justify any amount of monthly PCP increase with clever accounting. If you have a spare £10k - £15k burning a hole in your pocket then go nuts and buy a Born/Megane/Niro/ID3 if that's what floats ya boat. I even spotted on the Vauxhall website that a base model Mokka EV is now over £36k. Now am I missing something or is that bonkers. There is no way a Mokka EV is worth £9k more than the MG4 SE SR i've ordered.

Hi all. I come in peace. First post since December. I really have read this thread with interest. Lots of quality posts even with different viewpoints. This is a really good forum and such differing views enriches things for past owners, current owners and prospective ones. A place like this will be a trove of information for MGs consumer engagement team or consumer focused divisions (If they have one - they should).

This will only serve to benefit MG4 owners as you'll eventually have a much better product. The MG4 is not just a cheap car, it is good with even better potential. Still rooting for the 4.

Welcome back. Regrettably, MG customer Service official line is that they don't engage with fora or social media as they are simply full of rumour, incorrect information and speculation. So narrow minded

Nothing to do with me 😉 although I'd think you will struggle to beat the deal you have on the table.
It's only really getting into the same ball park with MG's recent price and Apr rise pushing the trophy into almost a different segment, it's in there with the Megane, Niro, Born etc now

Yes, I am not expecting to match the deal but we are at the point where we want to have a Plan B (apart from keeping our existing car another year) and the Megane looks like the best candidate for that. We'll see if we like it in the metal and if we get a quote I'll report back on the difference in the monthly payments as an accurate comparison (albeit for those with the old pricing/rate).

Quick calculations fro respective finance calculators. MG's.
Hypothetical figures.

£5000 deposit, 6000 miles a year MG trophy grey £391 a month

Renaults £39495 list price, £1200 deposit contribution, so added that to the deposit so £5000 becomes £6200. £428 a month so only £37 a month difference. The 2.5% cheaper Apr makes a difference.

Everything else the same 6000 miles 4 years.

Couldn't get the deposit down exactly so £26 extra on the Renault deposit.

Renault also have me £1000 more PX than 3 different MG garages offered me.
Add that to the deposit/PX the £5k becomes £7200 against the Renault's £39495

Now only £14 a month difference. Obviously hypothetical figures, but Renault have given everyone I've chatted to a similar deposit and a few people have confirmed a far better PX price.
You take £2200 of the £39495 that brings you down to £37295.(£4255 difference) The Apr rate does the rest.
Even without the extra PX it's only £37 more
Going on earlies figures of £5000 6000 miles.

£391 MG4 Trophy
£428 Mégane techno.
£416.42 Cupra Born V2 (5000 miles instead of 6)

£2000 dep 10000 miles. Pa

£480 MG4 Trophy 8.9% apr
£530 Mégane techno. 6.4% apr
£503.80 cupra Born V2 5.9% apr

The price rise and Apr rise is a bit of a game changer for the trophy.

Jesus. For £500+ per month i'd want 2 bedrooms and a south facing garden. And I thought we were in a cost of living crisis.

I totally agree the point is that there is only £50 between them, I wouldn't pay that price for any of them.
£480 for a trophy isn't the cheapest either.

I know I had a decent lump to put down with £1000 cash plus £7300 trade in, but my PCP deal over 4 years was £213/month for an SE SR. Based on the fact that my current car was paid for, I was always going to have to finance the car but looking at running costs and servicing for the the MG4 compared to my Kia Sportage, i believe the deal will actually only cost me around £50 net extra per month. I'm only on this forum with you good people because of the MG4. I was never gonna spend £30k plus on a car so I therefore thought it would always be way out of my budget to own an EV.

I saw in autoexpress vauxhall are doing the mokka EV as 0% finance now but you need to put £10900 down as a deposit, that's a big chunk of cash to put down, especially if your going to hand it back.

Out of interest, what happens to deposits when people cancel? Is it dependant on how far down the process the deal is.
Depends on the dealer it appears, some say it's non-refundable as per the sales agreement, some view it as they'll sell it easy enough if you cancel so aren't fussed and will refund

I think most have had their deposit refunded without any major issues

oooof those prices have risen from when I was in the dealership

My deal was
White Trophy 64kWh
£4000 down (included equity in trade in PCP current car)
7.9% APR
48 months
£367 p. month

Which is the deal I signed up for on 01st Oct 2022, any deviations from this and it will become a cancelled order.

Yeah there price rise and Apr rise has certainly impacted on the value of the Trophy.

Tsedge's deal is even better as his was pre price rise and 2 interest rate rises ago, so his was at 7%apr. As we chatted about he will struggle to get a deal anywhere close to the one he got of MG.

Anyone going for a trophy now (new price and 8.9% Apr) has a bigger decision to make less than £25 a month more gets you a Born. £50 is a little bit more to the Megane.

I've driven a Born, driven a good few EVs now, it is by far and away the best handling, driving and performance wise EV I have driven, it's also the quickest 0-60, I think it's 6.6 or 6.8 secs. Rear wheel drive like the 4.

Interim Sunday report:

We went to look at the Megane and though it looks a perfectly fine car and well built, there was nothing about it that excited us. The boot lip is massive which is a concern as we both have fragile backs. Inside felt cramped in the back and weirdly fussy with 5 or 6 stalks around the wheel and small screen. We've ruled it out.

Went to see the new Kia Niro and preferred that to the Megane, feels more practical and spacious inside with adjustable boot floor. However, not exciting us really, just a good practical car.

We are off to look at the Cupra Born next.
Edit: Our local Seat is shut on Sundays, so we will look another time.

Cupra Born is closest to an old school hot hatch EV in my opinion

Yeah boot lip is big, that's the reason I highlighted it to TJ when he mentioned mobility. Agree re the "4" stalks 😉 and 2 regen paddles, until I got used to it I was reaching for the gear selector instead of the wipers and vice versa, no issues now but did have to get used to it, the paddles for adjusting regen are really good, really practical, don't even have to move your hands just open your fingers up and your on them, but totally agree and I've said Ive said in the past it's got a lot going on.

I am looking forward to hearing what you think of the Born, I loved driving it, hated the haptic buttons though, Infotainment was a bit laggy, and I got quoted a long delivery time.

We won't get a chance to try it for a while but this review doesn't make a great case for it. Ok, the financials have narrowed (less so for us), but still.
