MG4 - It’s been five months and still no delivery date

I looked at a Honda car recently. The dealer was able to show me all Honda cars across the whole country that had not been bought or had a deposit put on them by a customer.

Honda dealers are not allocated random cars like MG. They operate a national first come first served system. It’s completely open and fair.

MG were supposed to start building to order in January so ending the lottery of who gets what and when and I suspect that is part of the reason MG's computers are being upgraded and why they can't be registered at the moment. Perhaps part of that upgrade will let the dealers see what cars are available and where 🤞

Blue Trophy pre-ordered August 11th.
3rd on dealer list when books opened August 19th.
Last I heard (Jan 6th), my car was at Portbury, waiting for a ride to the dealership.

That system was in use at a dealer of a well known French Electric car manufacturer I went to last week. Guy turned his screen around and showed me his inventory screen that listed about 53 cars made and that had left the factory but at various locations with various delivery dates from a couple of weeks to a few months. All with different specs, colour and trims.. He literally said 'what would you like?' If my spec wasn't there then it would be a factory order for maybe November. I found my ideal car for 1 March.

When I ordered the end of November I got offered a variety of specs and colours all available before Christmas

Ordered my MG4 Comfort (SE-LR in Europe) early December, in The Netherlands. I now have an ETA at the dealer of mid March, so hope to be driving it by end of March. That would be about 4 months after ordering.

Anyone waited longer than 5 months?

Trophy, Camden grey
You are lucky you have not received it yet I have it 4 two months and it’s whole interior including dashboard is making squeaky noise it’s worst on motorway mileage wise if the weather is below 5 degrees it will give you 50 miles less even if you don’t turn on heating I will never go for a Chinese product unless it’s disposable

Yep! We ordered our car and paid a deposit in February last year. We didn't get the car until November 31st. In the mean time we were initially told nothing, then when we started to nag them they said maybe July, and then...it arrived in December. They were really crap at communicating anything with us.

We are at 4 months. Original order (Blue Trophy) got pushed from 12/1 to “end of March”, then an alternative grey Trophy went from 12/2 to “maybe end Feb”, 3rd attempt is now a white Trophy that we are being told will be here next week. Not holding my breath. It’s a complete lottery, dealer hasn’t a clue when vehicles will arrive, the MG system ranges from vague to random at best and then they shut it for 2 weeks which means nothing can be registered even if it does arrives. We’ll tough it out this time, no choice, but will probably not go with MG for our hybrid this summer , no matter how good the MG4 is.

Could be the SC-chip flow. I get exactly the same story here in Melbourne Australia. Now, the MG4's won't be here until December 2023! By that time, the one's on order may have been transcended. It's not the manufacturers fault though. They would be selling them as fast they could if they weren't held up by the rationing of semi-conductor chips.

This is the MG 4 forum - I’m assuming yours wasn’t an MG 4?

!!!! UPDATE !!!!

My dealer* phoned me Friday lunchtime. The car is now in their storage yard!
I've arranged collection for March 1st, with a shiny new '23 plate attached. :D

* Gallagher's of Sandycroft

I ordered my MG ZS EV Trophy last March through Tusker (work scheme) and they tell me it’s still ‘awaiting build slot’. Last date given was end of Feb but that was in November so I expect an email any time now putting it back to April or May.
It’s not funny when your colleagues have already had their Tesla, Polestar 2, Leaf and Peugeot for months now.
