MG ZS EV
We've just rejected the ZS EV we got in Dec22

List of issues

Radio not working whilst phone connected via Bluetooth.
Sat nav faulty
Voice control didn't work.
Hands free for mobile was anything but.
Car couldn't work out the spped for the road.
Annoying rattle on drivers side of the dash
Annoying rattle on the passengers side of the dash
Couldn't unlock door at times
Poor camera quality for reversing

Dealership relatively unhelpful, couldn't fix the software glitches etc.
Sat Nav fixed by myself,
after getting helpful advice from this forum.
They did fix the driver side rattle but this caused the passenger side to then start rattling lol.

Sadly the unresolved issues wouldve driven me nuts, so the car was returned.

Btw we also have a Kona EV (wife's car) this is a far superior car in every way to the MG and yes, I know it costs more money.

I've decided to get a ICE vehicle for the next 3 years and will probably explore the EV market once again after then.

Just took delivery of my Seat Ateca Experience and it appears to be a very good car, very pleased with it.

Ps loved driving the MG ZS EV but too many faults for me.

Anybody want to buy a type 2 charger, a granny charger and some ZS mats?

It’s interesting that pretty much everything in that list are current inherit problems with the cars I.e. software.

It would be interesting to see how MG would respond if everyone rejected their car…

Most of the problems I have experienced are software quality related and most have workarounds or don’t matter too much That’s not the point though and neither is the oft quote response well it a good purchase given the price, that’s irrelevant.

The reality is that the MG ZS EV update is a pre-production beta. I love the concept of an EV and mine is a test project for a year. After that I’ll get a ‘production’ car.

There's no patch/update for the software issues and according to the dealerships I've spoken to there's none planned, it's very disappointing from my point of view.
In fact, my dealership thinks the ZS EV is already being phased out, its 42 weeks for a ZS EV currently, where as the MG4/5 is just 12/16 weeks.
As I've already said, the Kona we have is fantastic and has none of the issues the ZS EV has.

Big shame for you and disappointing. I'm pleased I've had none of your issues in the 7 months I've had my Trophy Connect LR. No software glitches yet. Fingers crossed!

I am in the process of rejecting my Trophy (dis) Connect demo car. I have had it for just over two weeks, most of which has been spent at the dealers trying to sort out various software issues. When I picked it up it was showing a message to say that a service was required. I took it back and this message was removed. On the journey home another message came up to say that the TPMS had an error. I checked the tyres and pressures were all ok. Car went back and this was rectified. On way back, LKA kicked in and tried to take me to wrong side of road, i.e. wrenched steering wheel to the right. Got home, noticed that three valve caps were missing and a wheel hub cracked and small dent in the boot .Tried to "bind" iPhone 13 to MG iSmart. Couldn't do it. Car was collected by dealers; valve caps and hub cap replaced but suggested that small dent was mine. Can't prove that either way so just have to accept it . I was informed that it was already bound to another phone and could not be unbound unless that phone could be identified. Had loan car (MGZS petrol manual) for 10 days. Was informed that they were on the case and that it was a minor glitch that would not entitle me to reject the car. Collected car and on way home, TPMS error appeared. Turned around and went back to dealership, waited two hours and was told that all fixed. Drove home and behold, same TPMS error appeared. Phoned the dealer and said to collect car which they did within the hour.
When I mentioned the prospect of rejecting the car, they were not happy and said that I would need to sort it with the finance company. Sales manager said that these problems were all insignificant and would not warrant rejection of the car. As I understand it, any warning lights would fail an MOT. I now have no loan car and no time set for returning mine.
Any advice welcomed.

As to the car is bonded to other phone play the last pod cast if you not see it and Miles has info on that.

Becareful selling the granny charger if it came with the car as it is part of the spec and would he viewed as failure to return the rejected car completely.
Yeah ours were totalled and the insurance company sold it to a scrapper.

The guy that had initially done the assesment for the insurance company called me because the scrapper was kind of angry that he could not find any Type-2 charge cable and no granny charger, so he called me, asking where they were, as stuff like that was part of the car.

I told him that neither of these were delivered with the car, and told him to go to the MG website, and have a look, MG wanted £350 for that type-2 cable, and it was not on the invoice for the car, which i sent him, and that there were no granny charger, and to contact MG if he did not believe me.

Apparantly the scrapper did not believe it, because "Those 2 things are standard in any EV"

I told the guy that i would gladly give this guy my Type 2 cable i had bought from a different company at half the price, but only if he got the insurance company to agree to add an MG type-2 cable to the invoice of the new car, and they would have to pay.

He politely declined :)

Tx. Very helpful. I do hope I don't have to go down that route though. I like the car. It is so much more refined than our previous Exclusive which in itself was a great car.
Hang in there if you can because it is a great car to drive. It might be worth giving the dealer a written list of things you want fixing and a reasonable timescale for them to fix them. Send a copy to MG UK by recorded delivery and then the clock starts ticking.

Martin Lewis has some useful advice and letter templates on his website.

Tx. Will see what they say on Monday. Dealer trying to be helpful and seems to be doing what they can. Their hands apparently are tied by MG. I have given them Miles' details and thanks to that, things seem to be moving. They can now bind the car to android phones but bizarrely not to Apple devices. The other problems persist.

If the dealer is doing their part, then the letter needs to be sent to MG UK.

For what it's worth a little yellow warning flag pops up on my dash sometimes indicating a service is due, which it isn't. I just reset it every couple months and will mention it at it's first service. The TPMS warning "could" just be a very slow leak in one of the tyres? My daughter just had exactly your problem with her Mazda 3 which kept coming on. Finally a new tyre fixed it.

Known problem, there is a software fix. Demand they apply latest firmwares to all modules as part of the service.
