MG5 First impression
Good evenin all,

I have MG5 EV Trophy Long Range from just more than a month I would like to share my first impression from the car. Generally I am very pleased with the car and really happy that moved from diesel to the EV car.
The car is oferting very good value for the money in my opinion. Over the weeknd was the first long journey with the car 100 miles (70% driven on the motorway and 30% countryside, everywhere within the speed limits) with average use of 18.8Kwh per 100km outside temperature 9 C. As positive I can add the iSmart application, slide down side here is that is no statistics available about the previous chargings, but the preconditioning of the car in the frosty mornings is lovely. I still didn't try fast or rapid chargers at the moment only using my home and working charges both 7kw.
Was slight disappointment that both of the passengers door stop opening from inside on day two, but this is sorted already. Also something as disappointing is that the car not remembering the driver settings and every time when you go in to the car you need to setup driver mode and regenerating braking, something else which MG need to think in the future models/facelifts is to offer option for heat pump, which will increase the car effectiveness during the winter months.
However the car is looking good choice based on the fact that MG ZS is not available at the moment, MG4 sems to have quite few manufacturing issues (leaking oil and accumulator battery stop charging).
I am more than happy to see/read what kind of experience the rest of you have with the car.

Hi, great to hear you are loving the 5.
I would definitely check out Zap-map to find a rapid DC charger near you had try it out even if you only add a few kW's.
Some app are easier to use than others and contactless is also useful to try out.

Good morningn Jomarkh,

I did have use for 15 min 75 Kw charger last sunday 26th of february just to check how the car coop with the fast charge. The charging was as exspected but the software on the car starting to be a bit slow and sluggish since.
I was thinking that this is only in my mind, but the car stop starting after the first press of the start button and then yesterday HV error appear.
I did have performed balance charge yesterday and now the car seems to be back to the usual.
I see in the forum people experience similar problem but the HV error appearing immediately after the fast charge not 5 days later. So I will call to the MG garage tomorrow to book appointment for diagnostic.

P.S. Second visit in the service in the first 10 weeks is not good look!

Get the 12v battery checked. Many people are having issues related to sub optimal 12v batteries due to the delays with cars sitting at the docks for months.

Good eveningn Keith,

I did have collected my car on Friday 13th of January the problem with the door appear on Saturday 14th. I did have contacted the local garage on 16th, the give me appointment for the car to be check and the problem to be examination for Thursday 19th.
On that day they try to perform quick fix which did not worked. So I have been given one more appointment for 6th of February, on that day I did have left the car in the MG garage and collected courtesy car. By lunch time on 6th of February I have phone call from the service and they explain the problem is coming from connection cable from the handle to the locking mechanism. The new parts/cables was order and arravid in 48 hours to the service, the car was fixed and ready for collection by lunch time on 9th of February.
One advice if you requested for EV courtesy car usually slowing down the thing a lot as most of the garages have not more than one EV available.
I hope all of the above help. You may need to be more pushy with your garage as I can see from the comment in the forum some of them reacting rally slowly.

Good evening everyone,

I have dropped the car on Monday27th for check why HV error have appeared, I am told that software update is needed.
After the software update all of the safety fixtures of the car are unavailable.
From the garage they told.me I need to drive the car on the motorway and evening will recover.
Please advice if anyone have similar experience.

Sounds odd to me. The only time I see those messages is when I drive through the Blackwell tunnel and humidity effects the camera sensors. It clear within 30-60 seconds once I am out of the tunnel.

Also ACC is not working to. I have drive the car for more than 30 miles and everything is off. Gona need call them again tomorrow.

Yeah I would doesn’t sound right to me.
I had that sort of thing every time the 12v battery is disconnected. The error messages went away after: unlock, start and drive forwards, stop turn off and lock, unlock and it's fixed. (The locking isn't necessary). So if it isn't gone the second time you start the car it's an issue.

Good afternoon all,

Is not quick fix and I need to leave the car with them for few days for full investigation. Next day in which I can do that is 26th of April. Until then no safety fixtures, will be like the old MG5 pre facelift.

Shows how slow my brain is at no point until today did i notice that id had exactly the same problem. After a bump to the front bumper all the safety features stopped and the radar was squint and its little black plastic cover cracked and fell off, the garage put a new bumper on, straightend the radar unit and spent a day trying to calibrate the radar with no success, then I put the broken plastic cover back on and it works at the moment.

Good morning all,
Quick update how my problem was resolved.
On second of May I left the car for installation on the patch for last update. Pick the car back on Thursday 4th of May finaly everting working fine.

I hope from now on to be many successful miles.
