Just spoke to our dealer, he said the earliest the “system” will be up is next Wednesday, this was a guess not solid fact though, everything seems to be a guess with MG. Our car has been at dealers for 2 weeks now.

I can confirm this. Just spoke to my dealer. They were promised that the system would be up and running yesterday at 9am but it’s still offline. However, on a personal note he had a cancelled order in stock which I’ve just said yes to! I was a January order so lord knows when I would have got my car otherwise.

The plot thickens. After accepting a blue SE LR cancellation, the dealer phoned me back to say I wouldn’t believe it but my actual car (blue SE SR) had just been unloaded from a transporter! I’ve gone back to that one. This means there’s a cancelled blue SE LR going at my local dealer right now if anyone’s interested. The dealer is Eric Stead in Sheffield.

When the dealer phoned me back and said “you’re not going to believe this…” I was sure he was going to tell me the cancellation wasn’t available after all, not we’ve got a choice now for you!!

So i went to my dealership- Spirit Corby - today and can confirm that the system is up and running.

My car, a se xr was ordered 19th nov with a request of delivery in march.

The system originally said TBA (great) but using the sales mgrs version it had the car as being assigned a VIN. They would normally expect a clearer status indication, but as the VIN is applied on landing in the UK its apparently at the port. A couple more weeks they said. I suggested online experience stated nearer 3-4 and they didn’t disagree.

I knew the VIN of my car at point of order (I selected from stock allocated to my [UK wide] dealer group), even though the car was still on the ship. (VIN is allocated by MG in China when the cars are built).

I was told that the VIN is assigned in the UK so thats a bit confusing

My dealer also confirmed today that the MG system is back up and running. He has given me my number plate and I pick the car up on 1st March.
Just sorting out insurance. Is the MG4 "fitted with a tracker" for insurance purposes?

The VIN plates are attached to the car in 2 places while it's being built.
The car then gets assigned to a dealer (sometimes not until it gets to Portbury), who then assigns it to a customer.

There's a "Find my car / Remember where I parked" tab in the app, but it's not suitable for "insurance purposes".

I specifically used language like “so the vin plates are applied to the car in the UK” and they agreed.

Which is clearly BS as they are typically welded and stamped in two places behind the screen and in the floor pan. Clearly factory done.

As their initial search showed my car was unassigned and only came up on a second system id suggest that its still not working 100% as they themselves said more info is usually on the system.

I told them i would check again in 3 weeks. They still insisted it was a couple weeks away…..

My car has been at the dealers and prepped ready for pick up for a fortnight now, what a fiasco.
I won’t actually believe this whole ridiculous situation is actually resolved until I’m driving the car off the forecourt.
It’s all been a terrible look for MG, and doesn’t inspire any confidence in me if there are any issues with ongoing ownership.

If I was due to pick up a car imminently I'd be checking the car has definitely had all applicable updates especially the one relating to getting locked into the car given it happened to someone yesterday and sounds like it was a very scary experience.
