I have just changed my original tyres on the front only 21k miles and fronts close to limit, rears still 69% tread depth i.e. 6mm. This is interesting to the point the rears should be good 60k without issue this is a god distance and does not lend its self to the rhetoric "the tyres are not good" I have replaced the fronts with a budget brand from National Tyres and will monitor them and the efficiency against what the Original tyres have done.

Um well I chose recommended tyres after them identifying my car as a MG 5 EV so I would say yes to that. If they did not provide the right tyres I guess litigation might take place if needed.
 
First run on new tyres returning 200miles on a full charge, the tyres have a grip rating of A and eco rating of D so not made any noticable difference to my range.
 
Having just had to change my fronts at 19k after the tracking went out and I ended up with them worn down on the outer edge. I just got them changed like for like but they were £125 each! I’ll be keen to see you results.
 
19k for the fronts appears to be good I remember some people saying they only got 11-15 k out of the fronts and lots of complaints mine were near legal limit with maybe 1/2 mm of tread above 1.6 so maybe I could of got another 500 miles. New are Autogreen Sport Chaser SC2 Tyres: 205/60 R16 92V total cost £128 for 2 chosen for the A rating on grip.

I'm on c. 4mm left on both original front tyres after 35k so there's a lot of variables involved by the looks of it!

It depends how you define "the tyres are not good". The original tyres last well. But that is surely not the only measure? I never liked the grip levels the originals tyres had. And would not buy them again.
 
For the first six months of ownership my wife couldn't pull away without spinning the tyres, so that would have had an effect for sure!

I’ve had a 5 for 7 weeks while they attempted to fix my 4.
The 5 is terrible for wheelspin, I said so in another post somewhere.
The tyres take some blame, but I think FWD and the high ride height is also to blame, too much weight transfer to the rear.
Back into my 4 last week I was sat at a roundabout beside a 5 and we both went for a gap, I heard him spin too.
It’s not just your wife, it’s endemic to the car.
I’d like to try one on better quality tyres, but weight transfer is not so easily fixed (lower ride height and stiffer suspension needed)

Evm on YouTube tested the facelift mg5 and experienced the wheel spin multiple times in his review.

There's a few uphill junctions on my daily travel that if its wet, and i have to completely stop at the junction, produces wheel spin from the drivers side.

I have watched EVM for at least 2 and a half years and generally enjoy his output. I have however noticed that he is not much of a lover of MGs. When all around were praising the 4 to the roof (ignoring known issues, they were not a concern in the video) his verdict was 'meh'
Of course you can spin the wheels if you want to, you can in any car, did you notice he turned off traction control to demonstrate it.
 
I don't find it a problem at all unless I accelerate aggressively.
Yes I agree - I’ve always preferred front wheel drive cars. I’ve never had any sporty type machines but often managed to spin the front wheels. My 1750cc twin carb Maxi and turbo diesel Maestro being particularly prone to it each with what I thought was lots of torque - until the ZS and 5 MGs came along and redefined what I thought was torque.
But still after almost two years with the ZS and now with the 5 I haven’t replaced any tyres.
I’ve always applied whatever torque I thought necessary after the vehicle was moving rather than suddenly in an effort to be more sympathetic to the drive train and tyres. This has been especially helpful with the ev’s with their instantaneously available go.
I’m guessing I might get 20,000 plus miles from the front tyres on the 5 and much more from the rears. Then I will probably fit Michelin all weather tyres which I found very good for grip and handling in the past.
 
In two years and 21k miles I don't think I've ever spun the tyres (still the originals all round). I do always drive in Eco mode though. I guess if you habitually use Normal, or even more so Sport, it might be a problem. The mode seems to just change the sensitivity of the pedal so if you've got big feet or heavy boots you are bound to have problems in non-eco modes.
 
I'm thinking of changing my front tyres (MG5 70 reg) after 20,000 miles as I'm getting regular wheel spinning, especially in the wet.
Bought from nearly new so presume the fitted tyres came over from China. Mine are Ecopia. Are these what you all have too?
