Remote control function failed

iSmart worked fine last night when the car was parked in Chepstow, but still does not work at home. I have emailed MG to ask which network they use and will post with details if & when I get a reply.

MG (and all manufacturers) should provide details of the networks their eSIMs use so buyers can make informed decisions about potential connectivity issues before purchase.

I’m in Newport and commute to Bristol, wonder if there’s some link to the area. I read somewhere on Facebook that Mg have had server problems this week. I got it to load up whilst in Tesco earlier but alas when I got home nothing again.

For what it's worth mine seems to work mostly when the car's parked facing towards the house, but not when it's facing away from it, so I guess I'll go in forwards rather than reverse into the drive. At least there's a signal in one direction.

EDIT - spoke too soon - seems to work sometimes

Locking the car for a few mins and coming back cleared all that. But still no communication from iSMART. Looking like a trip to the dealer is in order

On the drive to work I noticed there’s a little led lit up in the front courtesy light. On the drive to work it went out and thought I wonder if that relates to the signal for the system. Checked app and it worked. Got to work and it’s stopped working again 😂 does anyone know what the little led actually means then 😂
Mine also has an led which is always lit in the courtesy light. No idea what it's for ?

I wonder if it's worth checking fuse F6 (pedestrian alert module and communication module) to ensure its seated properly. Also I wonder if the comms antenna is built into the TCU (telemetry control unit) or is located elsewhere in/on the car given okohll's statement that it may not be multi directional? It all seems to point to a dealer visit at the moment, loose connection, faulty unit🤷‍♂️

Have booked in to dealer for airbag and iSMART fault, unfortunately can’t get in for 3 weeks but Nevermind. Dealer suspects it may just need a software update for the iSMART issue.

Touch wood my iSMART has been working without fault since this morning 😂 typical. Oh well still needs to go in for intermittent airbag fault anyway

I'm now certain my lack of iSmart connectivity at home is due to poor mobile network coverage there. Customer service at MG today emailed saying I am probably just unlucky with that, but they say they will find out which network they use and let me know. I will post details if and when received.

I've had my MG4 for about three weeks now and really like the car. I have a problem though with the remote control function on the iSmart app. All the other functions on the app seem okay. Every time I try to use any of the remote control functions, unlocking, turning on air con etc, I get the message "remote control function failed please try again later (59).
Anyone else had the same problem?

I have been having the exact seem issue since I got my ZS EV.

Getting the status from the car and windows etc works fine, but controlling the AC, heat or locks fails with error 59 and the same error you mentioned above.

I am based in the Netherlands unlike most of you.

I really would like a resolution for this…

I’ve had my MG ZS for 2/3 weeks and the ISmart app was fine to start with, then it started to give error “The status checking is failed, please try again later” it worked a couple of time since, but since I have not used it for 5 days it just won’t work now. I’ve tried different devices, logging in and out etc.. but still not working. I’m not sure if it is worth removing the app and starting again as I see some have already tried this?

Does it still not work if you try Refresh?

Have you been using the car in that time? (i.e. you've unlocked/locked it).

What's mobile reception like where you are?

No fails just same with a refresh. We are away so not been using the car . i’m in Portugal and it did work a couple of times from here. i have a very good wifi and mobile reception here. I think the key to the problem for me anyway is the length of time between using the app I.e. about 4 to 5 days. I’m back home tomorrow so will try the app and unlock the door etc then.
I did notice this same failure once when at home in U.K. but it seemed to clear.

In a roundabout way you've told me that the car is sitting idle. Thus it has probably gone into a deep sleep and will need kicking into life (e.g. by an unlock/lock cycle).

My theory is that the car polls the MG server, either randomly or on a cycle, and if it gets a series of Not Available responses then it goes to sleep. That could explain why the app sometimes works fine after the car has been left for days, and sometimes doesn't work after only a day or so.

Yep agreed this seems logical, certainly unlocking and waking it up tomorrow and then trying the app will be a good test. I need to talk to my dealer about a waiting part - door actuator so I’ll see if they can shed some light on it. I’ll let you know what happens.
Many thanks for your help.

Just an update to the solid error from the ISmart app ”The status checking is failed, please try again later”.
After arriving home from vacation I was still seeing the same error, but as soon as I unlocked the door and put the car into “Ready“ the ISmart app burst into life. As @siteguru suggested the car goes to sleep if the app and car are not used for a period of time. It would be useful to know if there is a set period of time so it can be avoided especially when on holiday.

It is very strange . I live in a very rural area and the app works amazingly . i can even live track when its driven and refreshes every couple of seconds with exact location Vodafone is about the most reliable service provider where i live so that may be the reason. Saying that we have some local villages with no signal or next to none and its also worked well.

Could it be due to the 12V battery status? I've noticed mine go down to as low as 12.3v after just 18hrs of being switched off.
