MG4 Trophy LR
I picked my MG4 trophy up on saturday and was informed by the dealer the sat nav and ISmart would be inoperative at the moment. Apparently the third party company who deals with the licence hasnt activated at their end. Just wondering if anyone else had the same issue . They have a number of cars in the same boat. The dealer is desperately trying to resolve but nothing heard yet.

Situations like this infuriate me.
If the car is only 95% operable I'd be giving them 95% of the purchase price!

Agreed and only pay the 5% when they actually fix it, in this situation however I'd say it should be more like 15% as sat nav and voice control are crucial.

What third party would be involved in this? The dealer and the customer register the car with MG.

Took delivery of MG4 trophy last Wednesday.
Downloaded iSmart from App Store.
Could not register - getting error message that there was no network connection.
Today (7.3.23) I received the following message from theDealer:
"MG are currently having a problem with the App and we are finding we’re not able to register any new cars to the App. We will monitor the situation and advise you when MG have resolved the problem".
I would add that it took an age to link my iPhone to the car. Don't know if that was connected (pardon the pun !).

It could be AWS, it could be the CloudFlare, it could be Azure but not knowing the MG architecture it could be any number of Back End services suppliers that gone down/certificates have expired.

Sat Nav & Voice control will be available once you tap on "accept" on the privacy settings page.
Then you have to dive into the menus and find the switches to turn them on.
I collected my car on Monday and got around to doing that last night. This morning, both were available.

What was missing for me was the QR code needed to link the car to the phone app. The page just had the large code for downloading the app, and a blank space where the code I needed should've been.

I'll try again this evening after work...

I'll have a poke around in it tonight, might be spending Saturday at the dealership.
The car is new enough to not have the IR sensor on the column, though.

My Trophy has no sensor and was R24 when I went to collect, but I complained and the tech lad loaded R33 for me there and then from a USB flash drive.

Ah... that's revealing. I had heard the car updates were all directly from the Chinese server, but it sounds like maybe the infotainment can be updated independently by USB, which should mean a decent dealer will have a 'tech lad' who can quickly do this for customers.

Maybe not everyone following MG's guidelines I'd imagine. ;-)

I'm genuinely hoping for an independent tech lad to annihilate my LKA.

Only issue with hacking the operating system and making changes is it will leave traces and that in turn could be used to invalidate warrenties or even worse case scenario invalidate insurance as we all all know if an insurance company can wriggle out of paying a claim they will do.

That's assuming anyone at MG or the dealer network have the first clue on how to retrieve these 'traces', which I seriously doubt as things stand!

True, it would be down to how good the diagnostic software is but a simple check between expected lines and actual lines isn't a difficult check. Not really look into EV OS or CAN bus before so made the mistake of starting to have a look last night and gone down a bit of a rabbit hole. Download a "Generalized Electric Vehicle Control Unit" repo from GitHub. Code is interesting, not that complex in it's generic form but of course it can get as complex as any manufacturer wants it to be

FWIW - I got my Trophy back in November and could not activate maps/head unit nor get a QR code to link the app to the car. I was in the garage yesterday and had a software update - I have noticed a few cosmetic tweaks so far (e.g. CarPlay music now shows what's playing), but still not able to get the satnav/app linked :(

That's a bit poor. Mines going in next week for a fix or attempt to fix. MG have come back with a solution. No idea what but they asked for a Obd scan a few days ago

My Sat Nav on my new MG4 trophy was dead, my QR code wouldn’t show on the screen for connecting the (not so smart) app, my Apple car play wasn’t connecting and after the 5th visit to my dealer MG said I needed an update on my software. That was done in 15 minutes and have to say the sat nav is working fine now, but the smart app and QR code are still not showing on the screen and my Apple car play is temperamental as to when it wants to play.
Yesterday I was setting off on a 200 mile journey for a weeks holiday. set the sat nav coordinate. Worked perfectly through the whole trip. Tried auto play. Didn’t work. Tried DAB. Didn’t work. Tried FM. Didn’t work. Tried BT and it worked but couldn’t play anything more than Talk Sport, which was fine by me but I don’t think my wife appreciated it. After 150 miles and having a short break, I tried the Apple car play and it worked straight away.
I love driving this car but the electronics are woefully inadequate.

I had the ismart binding problem. They told me the same. Turns out a simple reset on the car software resolved the issue
