So, the front ones look pretty low, though still legal apparently. All this snow this week makes me want to change the front ones now.

Anyone any experience of which type, brand might suit the 2020 EV best. I think grippy in the wet, more important than speed performance,
Any suggestions welcomed.
Thank you

This is quite subjective question the easy answer is to look at A rated wet tyres there are plenty of good A rated wet tyres premium and mid budget uniroyal have always been a very good wet tyre but wear quick Michelin and Goodyear (EfficientGrip) will last longer kumho come up good some say there budget tyres but yet BMW use them from factory

Obviously the best to aim for A A and one noise bar but sometimes you have to compromise one for the other I think quiet tyre is important on a EV

Thank you this is really helpful. The compromise I guess comes from price difference vs. safety and longevity - bearing in mind wife and kids and a very precious cargo!

Just been looking and the one to beat is Goodyear EfficientGrip performance 2

Michelin are a bit louder and through experience where a bit quicker fuel economy let it down

If it's wintry weather you worry about then a crossclimate tyre would work better but they definitely not fuel efficient and definitely a bit more noisy and wear down quicker

I can also recommend a website tyre shopper
There basically national tyres but there prices are quite competitive fully fitted and balanced

This is brilliant - thank you so much. I will check local supplier for the Goodyear. Much appreciated.

Thank you for the above information - I had the Goodyear's fitted yesterday. Quite happy with them.

:)

Michelin Primacy 4 S2 is the nearest match to factory fit. You’d could get these last year on Blackcircles.

Thank you for the info. I think the Goodyear Efficient Grip 2 were 135 each. I just changed the front at 21,000, though was was a few more months wear on them maybe.

I take it you did not see the link for £120 fitted
Do you find them any quieter? Are you happy with them?

Yes, I did, but I have a local place who I always use, and it's convenient. I trust them. Yes, I think I do notice a road noise difference - maybe if I had all four done, then it'd be quite obviously quieter.

This is why I prefer to rotate the wheels, then all four tyres can be replaced all at the same time.
It can be a hit on the pocket of course, but I just prefer this option myself.
If you are small user case, the rear tyres can end up being replaced prematurely as the side walls can start to crack with age, way before the tyre tread is anywhere close to the point of replacement.
Everybody’s driving style is different of course, but I would be disappointed ☹️ if the fronts ( left in place ) could not achieve about 20,000 miles before requiring replacement.
Which for our usage case, is about 12 months.
So, without rotation the rears would be on the car in the same location, for four years plus.
Less miles covered and I hope you see my point here.
VAG recommends rotation every 5,000 miles.
I have found once every 12 months to be fine myself, but it depends on your usage type.
Our ZS EV LR ( Gen 2 ) is just 12 months old now and has covered almost 10,000 miles.
It is due a front to back rotation any time now.

I never thought about that. I recall it was something my dad used to do when I was a kid. it makes a great deal of sense.
Thank you for mentioning it.

How about the hankook ion? They make an EV specific tyre with foam insert to dampen road noise.
I didn't even know that was a thing. I do now though. Thank you.
This forum is extremely valuable isn't it?!

I was looking at hankook website looks like the ion is not available in a 17inch so if you could direct me the one your looking at please

I thought tyres HAD to be ev specific or is it just better for range if they are ev specific?
No the only thing you have to be careful about is weight limit is within range
Funnily enough this information is missing in the manual for Gen1

It's worth remembering it's a bit of a pain to do this on the gen 1 as TPMS needs reprogramming gen2 not a problem

If you conduct a front to back rotation on the Gen1 then the TPMS still works to some degree in I believe.
The car should not produced a code or a warning ⚠️ light as the tyre pressures should be identical on each wheel / tyre.
BUT you just have to remember that the position it then reports, has shifted in a front to back pattern of course ( unless you have the TPMS sensors reset at the dealers ).
I would not bother myself TBH - I would just deal with one side at once and remove the wheel and ident the inside of the rim with a black marker pen, with its original location.
After the front to back rotation has been carried out, just remember if you where to receive a TPMS warning for the N/S/F tyre for example, this will actually be the N/S/R tyre now in affect etc and same on the other side.
This is because Gen1 does NOT have a TPMS relearning feature like the Gen2 model.
Each wheel / tyre is programmed to that particular location on the car when new on the Gen1 model.
If the wheel is removed for a puncture repair etc and is then refitted to the same location it is happy, but NOT if you change its location on the car.
The Gen2 model is different as it does have the relearn feature.
On a similar note, if the 12 volt battery is disconnected on the Gen2 model the car will lose all of the TPMS readings from the dash panel, but they will restore themselves fairly quickly as part of the relearning process.
I hope this makes some sense at least ?.
