MG4 Activate Head Unit Message

My system has worked fine since collection

But this morning touching weather or settings gives this activate head unit first message

Phone still connects and functions work

But can’t access anything in the car itself

Before starting to diagnose just wondered if it’s a general server issue and if any others have same issue

If I try to log in on head unit get message device id does not exist

Noticed another really odd thing.

Since this has started happening, all my heating controls are now on the wrong side of the screen, cant find any way to move

Sorry, not much help but I noticed on all the online videos / pics of LHD models the controls are on the left side of the screen, looks like its reverted to like a LHD mode.

Yeah sort of thought that but screen graphic is still RHD and everything else in system Menus etc are still RHD
 
I have not been able to activate the head unit. I get a Security Exception error. I have tried the swipe up on the agreement screen and ticked the 3 items...no luck. I have also been back to the dealer and had a case raised with MG but it has been 5 weeks now and nothing other than....please reset.

Any thoughts?

Just reset mine and the same thing happened. Not sure why...I did use GPS for the time if that makes any difference..
 
Mine went back to normal overnight and was ok this morning, so not sure what reset itself.

Have mine on GPS time now and it seems to work better than the Internet server based time.

Mine was fine before receiving the software update of the recall, and now I receive the same "turn on head unit first" and "device id does not exist" warnings.

Do you know anyone else that manage to solve the issue?
Mine was perfectly working before this "upgrade" so it's really annoying to have these issues now.
 
Hello everyone. I picked up my MG4 yesterday but I cannot get it to "bind" with my phone (on which I've set up an account on and entered the provided code). I've read everything here and done all the suggestions for the infotainment system (I've powered off, done the factory reset, changed the display to bright etc.) and I'm at a complete loss! When I did the factory reset and it came up with "configuration" it didn't display any QR codes so I was forced to "skip" it and I ended up back where I started with the same message to "activate head unit" or just a blank where a QR should be.
I know others have added pics but the pics attached are what I get when I try.

Even when I try to manually login it won't allow me to pick a country code for some reason:

Does anyone have any solution to this non-binding issue? All the youtube videos etc make it look so easy but it simply will not work!

I also collected my car today and have the same “activate head unit” issue, which reboot doesn’t seem to solve.

Seem to be two theories on this forum.

1. Servers in China were offline earlier this week - maybe they still are?

Or

2. There are two versions of the R33 software for the Trophy. The first one causes the “activate head unit” issue, the other one fixes it. I’m not sure you can tell which one you have from the display.

Ah interesting, I'll try to post what mine is and maybe you can see if we have the same?
Frustrating isn't it! I hope it's just a simple server issue.

I have the issue still. It has been in 4 times and now they are replacing the head unit. This may be a problem with the vehicle I guess on the odd unit.

Mines the same. From the other thread, it sounded like you can’t tell to the two versions of R33 apart. (Although I can’t tell it was ever proven.) will check with our dealer tomorrow

Car’s been at dealer today. R33 reinstalled. No longer has activate head unit message but still no QR code. So will have to make another visit. Only support for garage is to raise a tech support ticket with MG and then wait a few hours for a response… so could be slowing going.

Hi, I was supposed to collect my Trophy on March 8th, but on arriving at the dealership I was informed that the car was faulty and would not get past the activate head unit requirement. I therefore refused to take the car away and they (MG Glyn Hopkin, Kempston) have been trying to resolve this ever since. They do not have a clue what is causing the problem and have tried various software changes (including reinstalling R33) which have not worked. They are still awaiting MG Technical to provide a solution, who presumably are also awaiting a solution from MG China (SAIC).

Do you still have the same problem? Has any solution been found by your dealership? Apparently this has happened to other Trophies but I have not been made aware of any solution yet.
 
Mine’s going in again next week. Someone posted on another thread that their garage was going to swap the head unit for a new one.

Hi Scurry, any update? Has the head unit been changed yet? I have the same problem, can't activate the head unit and my dealer can't find a solution
