MG4 Activate Head Unit Message

I'm still having this problem despite the latest email from MG saying "a number of UK vehicles were not added to the server for the app. However, this was updated on Wednesday".
I've even been back to the dealership and they were not able to help at all.
If it is just a case of cars simply not being added to a list on a server then why the hell is it SO hard to get that done and verified? This is really starting to p*** me off!

Hi, I have the can't activate the head unit problem and made my dealer aware of the possible solution of " a number of UK cars were not added to the server for the app". However I was told that although "similar" this solution was not the answer to the fact that the head unit can't be activated problem. Hence I am still without my car and none the wiser as to any solution. The dealer states that they are still waiting for a solution from MG Technical (and hence most probably MG China, SAIC)
 
My dealership has informed me that MG have issued a software patch for the QR codes problem! I can't get it done until next week but this is progress! Has anyone else with this issue been told about this by their dealership?
 
Just picked my trophy up from MG Warrington for the R33 update and I have the same issue, took it back, and they spent hours trying to fix it but no luck. They have rebooked it in for the 13th
They said they've never seen it before, all scratching their heads.

Took it in today, sorted in 5 minutes. No more "please activate head unit first" messages (I hope it stays that way!). QR codes displayed correctly and able to "bind" with the iSmart app. Hurrah!
Could I ask, how did they fix it and which MG dealer? I have the same problem
 
Possible solutions (summarising from this thread):
  • MG China server problems (vehicles not added to the server)
  • Earlier version of the R33 infotainment update broke this and there is a more recent upgrade.
  • Swapping the infotainment unit (to one with a different version of the software / a fix)

I've added this thread to the fault tracker.

I get the impression that MG aren’t great at spreading the word about the fixes so the technicians need to raise tech tickets to get specific instructions. Ideally they’d do this ahead of your car going back in so it’s not sat there doing nothing in the dealership whilst they wait for a reply.

I had the same problem when I went to collect my new MG4 Trophy, so I refused to accept it until they fixed the problem. Anyway after around 10 days (and many failed software reboots/ re-installs etc) they finally solved the problem - but only with the technical support from China, the UK technicians could not solve it themselves. Did not get a full explanation as the sales guy did not fully understand it himself, but he was told that it had to do with some "transport mode" software, associated with the movement of the car from China to UK, which somehow interfered with the latest R33 head unit software. Once this "transport mode" had been removed/modified all was well! Since then the car has performed perfectly. Maybe ask your dealer if they are aware of this fix (assuming the explanation I had was correct)?

But now back to ho hum. 5 months in and no build slot.

Have you tried calling MG dealers near to you to see if they have any stock cars?

Some purchasers were ultimately refused finance or cancelled the sale and the cars were still delivered and are sat unregistered, some dealerships need to sell/register them before 1st of April or they'll go down as preregistered

There seems to be a fair few stock cars unregistered on Auto trader with March Delivery.

Mine's through Octopus so I don't have any flexibility on that. It's a fleet order so I believe it gets lower priority than others.

Maybe I'll give Octopus a rev and tell them to widen their dealer net a bit.

That does change things for your likelihood I suppose, that does seem unfair though given there are still cars arriving now that were ordered much less than 5 months ago.

I was fairly lucky as I walked into the dealership, test drove a Blue Trophy, loved it and there was a grey one sat unregistered right next to the desk.

Fair to say I booked it double fast and its now happening once all finance is agreed and whatnot. Fingers crossed I'm able to collect it within a week or 2.

As I understand it, the mechanic has to plug their service laptop into the car to connect it to MG's update server. The car & MG then decide between themselves what software needs updating.

I know this is off topic and I apologise, but I just got an update from Octopus! The car is real, and is somewhere on the planet between China and my house!
