Wilsons MG - MG Dealer Discussion, Opinions & Experiences

As this is my nearest MG Dealer I'd be interested in hearing any views about them (I don't yet have an MG so haven't used them myself).

So if you have had experience with them I'd be really grateful if you can post here - as in my view it's often the dealer experience that makes or breaks your view on a particular manufacturer.

Thanks

I have ordered an MG 4 from them after a very short test drive .They take a £500 non refundable deposit from you .The sales person has all the talk but will have to see what happens when the vehicle eventually arrives .

Thanks Nick. When did they tell you it would be delivered?

I ordered at the end of October and was told it would be delivered by the end of February.I called them last month and was asked if I wanted to wait for the 23 reg .It was an option? I am waiting to here from them again
Also I asked about getting a service plan but they couldn't tell me anything.

So I'm currently in a debate with this dealer.

I am trying to cancel my order (Grey Trophy) due to a change in circumstances. I am attempting to get back the £500 deposit and they have suddenly gotten a bit...slimy.

Awaiting a call back in the next few days. Very much hoping they'll do the decent thing. The car, when it arrives, will sell instantly, and for £1k more than they would've have gotten from me for it, so the damage to them is surely nothing!

Anyway, I will update here when they get back to me.

They don't like returning deposits someone else lost his deposit all they said was he could use on another vehicle .But he was prepared to lose it as he got a better deal somewhere else on a new Hyundai.
My paperwork does say non refundable deposit .But as you say they won't have trouble offloading the car as people are crying out for them.

Any news on your deposit refund .I may be in the same boat as my px valuation seems to have dived badly .

Nothing yet. I'm in two minds now. They said they would call back, and haven't (something of a theme with them).

The termination clause in the contract states that if the car can't be delivered within 28 days of the estimated delivery date then I can terminate without penalty.

My worry is that when I called them they initially said they were expecting my car in March, which would be outside of that window and allow me to terminate. But by telling them over the phone that I wanted to cancel have I effectively jumped the gun on that date and given them an excuse to keep my deposit.

Unsure what to do now. Wait for March and then call or call tomorrow and put pressure on. Hmm.

I rang them today about my car and asked if it was here yet .They didn't know supposed to be by the 28th .But don't think I will see it until March .I asked about my PX valuation and even though originally he told me it was fixed it will now have to revalued .It has dropped by up to £5000 since the original price so I may have to cancel as well. They are ringing me on Tuesday with details supposedly

What car did you order ??I ordered an MG 4 trophy on the 29 October I ordered a grey as that was supposed to be the quickest to arrive .The salesman is Alex Bridgeman I am dealing with

Ok that may explain why your car is there before mine

Update today I contacted Wilson's about my car order and was told they don't know where it is .So I asked for my deposit back to order from somewhere else.My PX has taken a hit since I ordered in October losing £1500 as well .I found a dealer in Aylesbury with the car in stock and have ordered from them.I then sent another message to Wilson's asking for my deposit back .I wait to see what happens

Happy to report that yesterday my deposit was returned to me. I wasn't contacted to let me know or anything like that, it just appeared.

Previous to this I'd sent a formal email stating my case, basically invoking the distance selling legislation. I don't know if this is why they decided to cave rather than fight me on it, but I suspect so.

Crucially, perhaps, said legislation only applies if you haven't set foot in the dealership at any point. If you have, then, as far as I understand it, it doesn't count as distance selling and you're S.O.L

I hope my experience is helpful to someone.

Great news I am still trying to get my deposit back .I sent them an Email yesterday saying I would take up a dispute via Visa for the return of the deposit .
My case is different as I got fed up with waiting for the car and bought from another dealer .My PX was losing lots of money every month .
Glad to hear you got your deposit refunded just hope I get mine back .

I guess this question applies to all dealers, but when you place an order with a 'non refundable' deposit, you are entering in to a contract. If the fine print states that the car has to be delivered within a certain time frame and it's not, or if their written, fixed part-ex value changes, have they broken the contract and can it therefore be cancelled with full refund?
