MG4 Range

I thought with the latest software update there was no longer a coffee cup icon on the screen as shown in the photo . Maybe I'm wrong.

That’s only on the early trophy model none on any SE spec

SE SR
Latest software allegedly.
Normal mode and high regen.
TBH I think high regen is bad for range.
I notice if I’m driving at a set speed (say 40mph) switching from the preset high regen to adaptive makes the car ‘leap’ a bit, like something that was dragging it back has been lifted.
I like adaptive and I think it would improve efficiency, but too late for experiments now.
I agree with the feeling of holding you back to some degree my 5 is much the same which is why I aways use lowest regen on motorways but round town it not much different to me my wife always drives in eco regen 3.

It was meant to be patched when I took it in to get the central locking issue fixed, but they were told by MG China to not install it due to a software corruption. Kind of forgotten it’s there now tbh.

Now the cold weather has returned I think I have managed a new record. Charged to 70% yesterday, did 5.6 miles and used 12%. That's 0.76m/kWh giving a fully charged range of 46.6 miles in a Trophy LR :)

The car took 2 cycles of preheat this morning to remove the snow and we were toasty the whole time we were in the car doing lots of short journeys with waiting around so it's to be expected. I'm just glad I get free charging at work for now.

With the warming weather, MG4 is returning 4+mpkwh. So just proved to me that LFP battery will suffer in cold weather(<4) with a range of (100% charge gives 160-180 miles) while at current temperature (13+) it is showing the more expected 200+ range

100% Charged Trophy. 300km on a long trip. Estimated 364km when charged at 100% at 13%.
I assume this is based on the driving style (motorway) . Just curious , anybody hitting close to the wltp range (435 km / 260 miles ) or will that be a summer thing with warmer weather?

Range Displayed

The range displayed is not wholly based on the battery capacity and the mileage advertised.

An algorithm within the car looks at existing battery capacity and driving history, examining previous journeys miles per kwh for example and derives an estimate of what range may be available.

Speed, cabin heating, terrain, regen use, weather conditions, to name some of the factors involved, will have an impact on miles per kwh and therefore it is purely an estimate, as was the range when you collected your vehicle.

The range available will not take into consideration the type of journey you may have planned based on the above factors and therefore regard it as just an estimate.

As it gets warmer watch the range go🚀

I'm finding on medium/long journeys the car either returns 3.2m/kWh (~195miles) or 4.2m/kWh (~260miles) depending on whether I'm driving fast with the heating on or slow with no heating.

Using the heater seems to use so much power that it doesn't make much difference driving slower when it's on as you are extending the length of time the heater is running.

Yes, GoM calculator in MG is rudimentary. At the start of day the GoM displays range based on Accumulated mpkwh, as you put in a few miles and current mpkwh is updated, the GoM will recalculate remaining miles based on the current figures.
Now this is based on a MK1 ZS EV unless MG created a sophisticated GoM for MG4. I am afraid they will have to include a more powerful computer within their car like Tesla to build a sophisticated GoM, which will push the cost significantly.

Did anyone ever calculate the gap between the steering-wheel-screen miles per kwh and the real consumption? My car displays like 17 kwh / 100 km (3.7 mpkwh), but I only get around 240 km from 50 kwh, which is around 21 kwh / 100 km (3 mpkwh).

Is the computer off by 23 %, or what am I missing?

But our daily normal usage would make an off-peak tariff unworkable, given the irregularity of needing to charge the car. (SWMBO will absolutely not have dishwasher/washing machine/tumble dryer running overnight whilst we're sleeping).

I'm in same boat here I think. My wife will be using car when we get it for a just over 5 mile daily round commute, me maybe once a week for a 22 mile round commute. Then sole leisure use. I work from home rest of time and we sleep over the drier and washing machine. I need to do some sums to try and work out whether it'll be worth faffing with an overnight tariff.

Thanks siteguru! Is your car computer displaying the same mpkwh numbers as in your sheet, or is it also off ... by like 23 %? ;)
Mine is there or thereabouts ... certainly not a 23% differential. (The GoM won't show a number less than 2 mpkWh, so it shows dashes or 2 or higher).

I calculate mine using a spreadsheet; here's a snapshot:

@siteguru intrigued by your spreadsheet, recently I've been keeping a similar but more rudimentary record since I've become aware of the difference between Stored & Charged.

My question is - where are you recording the Stored value from? I think it's on the cars charging display until unplugged but I'm never that organised to look before unplugging. Can it be found after?
