Received my MG ZS EV Trophy Connect today and been out playing. Super fun but on my travels I found 2 broken fast chargers. The car came with about 48% charge, which I think is the norm now that its so expensive for dealers to do give a free 100% charge. It was actually picked up from Portishead and transported to me only 50 miles so no free top-up.

In my fun day I wanted to get it to 80% so went looking for a rapid charger. The only one in Glastonbury Morrisons was a Genie Point that was broken. Traveled to Wells Morrisons and all of there chargers were not working. I did look on ZapMap and the genie points were shown as not working but it was on my travels and I thought I would try.

Then travelled to Shepton Mallet to show the car off to my Son and thought I would try the PodPoint Slow charger in Tescos. It was working but I must have done something wrong because when I came out of the shop it had stopped charging.

Gave up at this point and returned home. 38% charge.

Tomorrow I'm off to Taunton and some motorway driving so I thought I would use either, the MFG charging station at Dunball service station, or the Instavolt at the McDonalds thats near by. I read in another thread that MFG chargers can BRICK an MG ZS EV. Has this been resolved or shoulkd I just avoid?

Apart from the small worry I was really impressed with the drive. The LKA was not as bad as I thought and the braking was really good especially when a young girl ran out in front of me at one point. The car stopped immediatelly although I think if I had have passengers their false teeth would have been lodged in the bonnet.
So your advise on MFG chargers would be appreciated before my second day exploring the new world of EV.

The Instavolts at the Cribbs Causeway McDonalds (just off the motorway) have been useful couple of times. Can get busy though. Lidl have one at their Taunton store which is cheapish.

No knowledge about MFGs I'm afraid.

Did you use the Podpoint app and confirm the charge ?

Tesco Podpoint will stop after 15 minutes if you don't confirm (but at least you get the 15 minutes for free!)

There's an Osprey rapid charger a little way South of Glastonbury you could give that a try. Apart from that are you able to plug the car in at night on the granny charger?

I don't use public charges very often but find Instavolt and podpoint to be reliable.

I used an MFG in their brand new charging station at the entrance to Dover Port. As a new EV driver I found the MFG app and the actual charger confusing to use. The charger refused to stop charging when I selected stop. I ended up paying a fortune for the KWs that I did not want or need. MFG reserved 2x £40 fees on my credit card which took 9 days to clear. I wrote to MFG and complained am still awaiting a response 2 weeks later.

Is the Osprey the one at the Bear Inn? If so there have been a few occasions when its been broken and also people complainibg that they are receiving parking fines when using it. Apparently its not well signposted and difficult to pay for parking anyway.
Unfortunately I'm in a flat with no access for a granny charger lead. However. there are now several both fast and slow chargers either in operation or soon to be commissioned which will ease the situation if not the wallet.

There are 2 Charge points at the White Willow , North Petherton, this is just off the motorway at junction 24 , i was told today , not tried them yet as car does not arrive till 30th March

No idea, I just saw it on a map, sorry.
Osprey chargers are often (but not always) in private car parks where you have to pay to park while you charge.

I highly recommend getting a ElectroVerse charge card and the app. Great discounts when using public chargers. The app is good for finding chargers.

Could you not stop the charge from the car end? That should always be possible.

Aren't the Electriverse discounts only during off peak times?
The nearest Electroverse charger for me is 79p per KwH and 63p between 7 and 11 pm . It's about 15 miles away , so a 30 mile round trip to save 16p KwH seems a little pointless...and inconvenient

I have an Electroverse card but am almost entirely surrounded by useless unreliable slow Geniepoint chargers.
Fortunately I don't need to charge away from home locally, I save that pleasure for longer trips. :)

There's a charger about a mile away from me . I tried to initiate a charge with the card and the app ... didn't work

As you didn't mention the brand of charger I assume it was one covered by Electroverse ?

edit...as you tried the app I guess it must have been :)

Sorry . It was an EVBox charger ( partnered with Electroverse ) . I was going to attempt it again today but the Dealership Car Park was locked . Electroverse say it's 24/7...big fail :)
