MG4 7 year warranty?

I think doping LFP with manganese is showing a lot of promise, nominal voltage jumps up above 4v and capacity much improves.
Of course it's the lower voltage range that gives LFP it's reliable old donkey with long life characteristics, so giving the nag a sugar rush might be counterproductive
It's the lack of crystalline collapse that makes LFP so resilient to degredation.

In NMC and NCA batteries the Lithium is holding up the layers of battery and once the Lithium has migrated to the cathode there is a risk of structure collapse hence the issues around depth of discharge with NMC and NCA.

Where as is LFP the structure is like a sprung mattress and the Lithium is between the springs and the mattress top and bottom, it reduces lithium migration to the cathode but is more stable and doesn't depend on the lithium to support its structure.

No idea what you’re saying but it’s so impressive that I will copy and paste it on other forums as my own work.

When you say looked after what do you mean? Not used much?
Not regularly charging at fast chargers, balancing the battery, and unless you have the SE, not charging to over 80% unless the car is going to be used straight away or you are doing a balance charge.

Wot he said. Nothing to do with mileage.

There are some very high mileage EVs out. Typically the batteries vastly outlast the car without much degradation - it seems there is an initial drop off in year one of a few percent then it drops very slowly each year after that.

Sorry for obvious questions but what is balancing the battery

I have the se so is it ok to charge over 80% often?

Letting it charge to 100% and then keeping it plugged in, it will draw lower power as it balances the cells for anything from a few minutes to a few hours.

SR SE should be charged to 100%, recommended at least once a week.

LR SE only charge to 100% monthly (to balance) or when you need the range.

Is there a way to check the batteries health?

On your phone you can check the battery but they say this is not always accurate.

I guess measuring the range on a full charge would be interesting after several years but that wouldn’t tell you the life left in the battery?

A balance charge means leaving the car charging after it reaches 100% so the car can equalise the voltages between the battery cells.
SE's have a differebt battery chemistry so they can be charged to 100% every time.

tsedge's beaten me to it
Well you beat me to it above so got you back! 😂

Thanks I didn’t know this I have the SE so will try to charge to 100% and leave it charging for a while after to balance the batteries 🙏

Only the dealer can check the batteries health
I wonder if there will be a way in the future for a lay person to check it accurately

If it’s recommended to charge to 100% and leave it plugged for a few hours after once per week then with my use I can’t see it ever going below 80%

Is this healthy for the battery?

Yes, internally the BMS will balance the usage across cells, these days there's no need to drain a battery regularly to keep it healthy.

Several times you've mentioned having an SE - not once have you mentioned whether it is the SR or LR version; the advice differs for them (as previously stated). :)

You can see the range you get from a full charge after 7 years compared to when it was new

This is the ultimate test of the batteries health
That's not accurate though, Ian is talking about health
