I have been offered £322 for 3 years service plan at Eden Newton Abbot, does not include first MOT. Based on 10,000 miles a year.

Is this reasonable?
I have confirmed that this includes MG Assist renewal - you get that automatically if you have it dealer serviced.

It's a good deal, we will probably go for it.

(Government plans afoot to delay first MOT to 4 years from new).

Has anyone got a service plan quote direct from MG?
MG Service Plan Quote
This is the one I got.

Picking up MG4 SE LR from Croxdale on Tuesday (done 3000 miles as used by dealer/test drives).

Quote for service plan at Croxdale £404 according to document portal (doesn’t mention MOT).

Service plan quote from Darlington drive £279 (3 services, mot and assist extension).

So grateful for this thread and whole forum so hope that helps others.

When I asked about service plan, dealer suggested talking on person at pick up but now I know a bit more what is good value.

Are there other last minute add ons that we need to be aware of they might suggest?

Documents suggest considering total loss cover and cosmetic damage repair that thinking of saying no to. Paint protection we are getting but no info on what extended warranty is (is it more than standard 7 years and why is it offered if people tend to get new car before then?)

Don’t like to be put on spot so wondering what options others have been asked about when buying (our first EV)?

Thanks

My dealer quoted £300/year for servicing!!!. Needless to say I went to a local backstreet ev authorised garage and they said first annual service will be £150 tops, but even that looks expensive after reading this thread. Only thing with going to a non MG garage is the guy said MG have not yet provided access to online records for their cars as some manufacturers have, so records of servicing will have to be kept paper copy until access is granted.

Just bear in mind that a dealer direct service plan may be only valid with that dealer. This is fine, but in the current market they could go bust - so take this into consideration and check . A MG service plan is valid at any authorised dealer.

Yea it’s a good sales tactic to try and make you feel you have to take this opportunity now and don’t give you time to think about it

I didn’t go for any extras I mean that’s what your own insurance and the warranty is for right?

We just have our "offer" of a service plan.
251.62 for 2 years servicing..... which if paid individually total... £224.12! The joy of paying a £1.25 management fee per month.

I think we will pass.
Although interestingly they are listing the 2yr as £130.27 and its noted as a 20K/2 year not 30K/3 year

I asked my dealers (SERE Belfast) about a service plan for the MG4 and was told it wasn't worth it, I wouldn't make any savings. They said the servicing costs weren't that high, and compared to my previous car (Mercedes GLA) I have to agree. I was paying £50 a month on the service plan for it!

When you say you will pass do you mean you will have no servicing done?

I don’t understand so instead of buying a service plan you will just pay for a service every year?

Or will you not bother with keeping FSH?

When I bought my trophy a few weeks back ( it’s apparent on the slow boat from China now) the salesman thought the cost was £600 for 3 years. I said that at that price I’d go elsewhere, he said that any parts have to be MG or it invalidates the warranty… I feel a negotiation coming on when I pick the car up 😁

First 3 services on my Hyundai Ioniq 38kWh BEV cost £210 total. Just for comparison. Which includes AA and updates etc.
I just had my leased 38Kwh Ioniq go through its 2nd service. They did:
An inspection
Changed the battery in the key fob
Changed the pollen filter

All for £184 !!!!

Yes parts have to be approved MG however an approved EV back street garage can still service the car and keep the warranty up as long as approved parts are used. There aren't many parts required anyway. I believe first service is a pollen filter replacement (MG Filter mind which i think is about 40 quid!!!) and a quick inspection. I've had nothing but bad experiences with main dealers undertaking mechanical work in past that I try not to use them unless I really have to.
