I know how to switch off the speed sign thing, but it doesn’t stay off permanently.
I could live with it if it didn’t flash.
My BIL says you press ‘ok’ on the wheel of his 5 to stop the flashing, but no ‘ok’ button on the 4.
Anyone figured out how to stop it flashing (other than drive under the limit all the time, but it keeps thinking a 30 limit near me is 20, it’s not…)

I think this tells you how you can switch it off from the infotainment screen.
Its page 210 in the user manual.

I spoke to MGUK today about this....No planed update gonna be available or in the offing.....!!! Very frustrating/annoying/dangerous!!

mine also flashes on the national speed limit on dual carridgeway when doing 70mph. Its thinks i should be doing 60mph

I fail to see how it’s dangerous. I leave mine switched on as it’s not perfect but useful when I don’t know what the limit is. Flashes from time to time when I stray a little over or on dual carriageway but dangerous? Gimme a break 😂

Very well said. Honestly, the things some people criticise. It is there to try and stop you getting extra points on your license or a speeding fine.
I am perfectly happy with that.

There’s an over speed setting in the setting where you can tell the car not to complain unless you’re a certain amount over the speed limit (I believe) Although I get you might not want to permanently set it to only alert 10mph above.

Speedos are calibrated to read a fraction higher than actual speed. Road signs will tell you the speed limit (which is not a target), but if the limit has changed recently the satnav will not update - possibly for many months. At least the flashing Speedo should make drivers double check the actual limit. 😎

So you say, a flashing icon in the line of sight is not distracting and therefore dangerous.....oh...ok then.....🤦🏼‍♂️

It shouldn't flash when you are within the speed limit....it needs an update....I'm confused as to why people think a flashing, distracting icon in the line of sight is not distracting and therefore dangerous.....🤦🏼‍♂️

I'm confused why people think they need to stare at a flashing icon rather than glance at it (as they would for their speed etc.) and immediately understand what's happening. 🤷‍♂️
This ^

It’s certainly not in ‘line of sight’, unless you are remarkably vertically challenged and look at the road ahead through the gap in the steering wheel…

I think you need to urgently re evaluate your ability to safely drive this motor vehicle if this is putting you in peril. As an interim measure you could try sticking to the speed limit and avoiding dual carriage ways with national speed limit, you must never operate a vehicle in a dangerous condition and you have publicly stated that this is dangerous for you. Should you be in an accident this could be legally problematic. Stay safe.

It may be distracting, but no more distracting than someone sitting next to you talking, kids messing about in the back, car lights coming the other way at night.
Driving is full of distractions that why we get lessons sit a test so that we know we can drive safely and not get distracted by them and they become a danger

Amen. And a lot of the distractions these days are signs and other helpful so-called safety features!

The Dutch demonstrated that if you decluttered the roads of signs and markings then people actually had to concentrate and drove more safely: accidents reduced.

The same I suspect is true of many nagging safety systems.

Another so-called feature that is a proper pain in the arse, flashing away all day. And of course it misreads the signs so even when you’re not speeding it thinks it’s a different limit and flashes away at you anyway!

Agreed, but it’s simple to just turn it off altogether. It’s not a feature I’d call essential really.

We were playing with this and I think this is the crux. This is a bug. The car thinks the national speed limit is 60mph not 70mph.
The speed only flashes when you're going over the limit displayed. We tested this at 40 50 and 60 and each time it only flashes when you creep over. If you go over 60 and its showing national it then starts flashing. Interestingly when it showed a 70 limit it then stopped flashing so this is clearly a bug with the car thinking the national speed limit is 60 on all roads. I guess it can't tell a single vs dual carriage way.

The SE cannot in any way tell the difference ... the Trophy (with built-in satnav) has an opportunity (whether coded or not) to match NSL to actual speed limit of a road.
